CW Renews Whose Line? and Penn & Teller

CW Renews Whose Line? and Penn & Teller
Bob Hagh

Both shows have been doing well for The CW this summer season

Two of CW’s unscripted series, Whose Line Is It Anyway and Penn & Teller: Fool Us, have both been renewed, and will air new episodes into 2016. Both shows have been averaging a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and roughly 1.75 million viewers. When the UK series of Fool Us ran on The CW last year, it averaged around a 0.52 rating and 1.67 million viewers.

And, just this past Monday, both shows did incredibly well. Whose Line had its most watched episode in more than a year, with 1.8 million viewers, and Fool Us had its most watched episode ever with 2.35 million viewers.

Glad to see the renewals, now that Penn & Teller is filmed in Las Vegas and that it does get some international sales, which helps the overall budget. I am pretty sure they will also pick up “Masters of Illusion” that airs on Fridays on the CW. Produced fairly cheaply, using the Blackstone Family connections, and the international sales to help cover the costs, it has been getting about 1.25 million views per week. Heck, compare that to FOX’s failed experiment with Knock Knock Live, whose production costs were huge, but somewhat offset by in show sponsors and got worse ratings.
Hopefully the CW can find a “GSN budget” show to add in next summer’s line-up and get another game show on the air. You don’t need to spend a lot or give away millions to make a entertaining TV show
