24 Hour Game Show Marathon Receives Cease and Desist from Fremantle Media, Alters Event Plans
The 24-Hour Game Show Marathon, an event that conducts an annual charity live stream celebrating the art and history of game shows, has announced a change in its programming for its upcoming 11th edition. This adjustment comes after receiving a cease and desist request from Fremantle Media. Mark Sassounian, Manager, Business & Legal Affairs for Fremantle Media, sent the request on January 11, 2024, specifically mentioning the use of “Press Your Luck” and “Match Game” with regards to the Game Show Marathon.
In compliance with this legal notice, the Game Show Marathon has informed Fremantle that they will not include or simulate any game show formats owned by Fremantle Media USA in their upcoming event. The decision came after requesting permission to play these games during the Game Show Marathon and being subsequently denied permission by David Patinella, VP of Business Affairs for Fremantle Media.
Despite this change, the organizers have confirmed that the 11th annual charity fundraiser will proceed as planned. The event, set for June 8, 2024, aims to raise $5,000 for Child’s Play, a charity focused on providing toys and games to children in hospitals and other child welfare facilities.
