Mike Richards Out as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune Executive Producer
It's been a hell of a week for Sony's game shows.
The drama behind Sony’s game shows seems to be coming to a close. Mike Richards is no longer the executive producer of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune just days after resigning from hosting Jeopardy!. A memo to staff from Sony executive Suzanne Prete wrote:
We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks. That clearly has not happened.
Michael Davies from Embassy Row will be stepping in to help out for now. Michael has helped produce favorites like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Smush, Studio 7, Chain Reaction, The World Series of Pop Culture, Grand Slam, and many more.
Rather than go over every single that’s happened to Mike Richards and Jeopardy! over the last few weeks just read the excellent reporting from Claire McNear at The Ringer. It’s truly amazing that anyone at Sony thought this I Love Lucy-esque caper would work out. Davies is a great producer and has done so many excellent games and quizzes, so it’s nice to see the games in such good hands.
