Colin Jost to host Amazon’s Pop Culture Jeopardy!
The Saturday Night Live writer and comedian will front the team-based spinoff.
Pop Culture Jeopardy!, Michael Davies’ attempt to try The World Series of Pop Culture again, right down to the teams of three, has a new host, and it’s someone familiar with hosting a show—albeit, a fake news one and not a game show. Colin Jost, SNL head writer and anchor of the show’s Weekend Update, has been tapped to host the Amazon Prime show.
In a statement released, Colin Jost said: “What is, ‘I’m excited?'”. Considering he knows the structure of the answering, can read cue cards and can keep a segment moving along, he’s already got a head start over Mayim Bialik.
“Colin’s sharp wit and intelligence epitomize Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” said Suzanne Prete, President, Game Shows, Sony Pictures Television. “He’s smart and quick, like our contestants, and we know he’ll be able to keep up with them while making this new series his own. We could not be happier that he is joining us for this new journey.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome the multi-talented Colin Jost as the host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” added Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation, Amazon MGM Studios. “Colin’s wry affability and pop culture fluency make him uniquely qualified as the perfect host for this new iteration of the beloved franchise.”
The Anytime Test for the show has stopped taking applications, but there’s no word yet on when the show will air.
