Jeff Ellingson Wins $100,000 on “Wheel of Fortune”

Tuesday was a big money day for game shows.  In addition to the quarter million won on Millionaire yesterday, the confetti dropped on Wheel of Fortune. Jeff Ellingson, originally from Fargo but now living in Los Angeles, took away $100,000 from the long running syndicated game show on April 2nd.  Jeff won the game with$16,830.  He then correctly solved the bonus puzzle "A PAUSE IN THE ACTION" to take home the hundred grand.  Jeff left with a total of $116,830.  He is the third person this season to spin and win the $100,000 envelope.  Congratulations.  Hopefully we'll see another (or maybe a millionaire?) before the end of the season. Weekend Replay: Friday’s Very Disjointed Game of “Wheel of Fortune” Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: Friday’s Very Disjointed Game of “Wheel of Fortune”

This past Friday's episode of Wheel of Fortune was interesting to say the very least. It had all of the embarrassing and confusing elements one could want in the wheel spinning show: Ringing in during a Toss Up and not answering, incorrectly (and humorously) solving another Toss Up and Pat Sajak with a great ad lib, poking fun at a contestant who randomly guesses (and misses) to try to win the Jackpot. That in and of itself is amusing, but coupling that with Pat literally spending 30 seconds trying to understand what letters the contestant is choosing in the Bonus Round makes for one of the most disjointed episodes of Wheel of Fortune in recent memory. Click here to view video highlights of the interesting game.

Ratings Report: Syndies Hit More Season Highs, “Family Feud” Soars Even Higher Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Syndies Hit More Season Highs, “Family Feud” Soars Even Higher

The week of January 7th was a great time to be a syndicated game show. Just about every first-run program hit a season high with their ratings this week, putting them all in great standing. Wheel of Fortune stayed the pack leader this week, logging an average of over 11.8 million viewers this week, giving them a 7.6 household rating. That's one-tenth of a rating point more than the previous high and is over 800,000 viewers higher than last week's viewership. Jeopardy! is ringing in for joy as well, as its previous high this season was just over 9.9 million viewers. This week, they accounted for almost 10.5 million viewers coupled with a 6.8 rating. The Sony squad is happy to hear that, I'm sure. Click here to read about the numbers for other shows this week, like Family Feud, Millionaire and Newlywed Game.

Ratings Report: Big Money Shatters Another “Family Feud” Record, How Much Further Can They Go?

Syndicated ratings are in for the first week of 2013! These are ratings from the week of December 31, 2012 and one show in particular has really good news. But we will start first with our two traditional toppers. Wheel of Fortune begins to recover from the holiday season breaks, gaining back 150,000 viewers and inching up two-tenths of a ratings point, finishing with just fewer than 11 million viewers and a 6.9 household rating. Jeopardy! shows the wackiness of the correlation between overall viewers and the household rating, as it loses 40,000 or so viewers but gains a tenth of a point to go to a 6.0 rating. Click here to read about the new record-setting numbers Family Feud delivered this week and to weigh in on how much farther you think they will be able to go.

“Wheel of Fortune” Maingame Winnings Record Broken, Nearly $70,000 Won

To say the least, Home for the Holidays week on Wheel of Fortune has been pretty eventful, and yesterday was the exclamation point. Some say records are made to be broken and on Friday's Wheel, contestant Leanne McLaughlin from Cary, North Carolina did just that. Since 2005, the record for most money won by a contestant in the maingame (the portion of the program before the Bonus Round) has been $66,350. With a string of good luck, risk-taking and good puzzle solving, Leanne broke it by a few thousand dollars, earning $69,300 in less than 20 minutes. Click here to read about Leanne's record-setting day and to watch highlights of it.
