When you check out the season premiere of Jeopardy! in a few weeks you'll notice something very new off the bat.  The long running quiz show hosted by Alex Trebek, entering its 30th season, is getting a brand new set.  The current one you see nightly lasted from 2009 through this September.  The set retains the same colored-curtain backdrop while getting several new structures to fill in some of the blank spaces.  It looks great.  An audience member snapped a picture and uploaded it to Instagram.  Click here to take a look.

Interesting report from New York Post this morning.  Alex Trebek's Jeopardy! contact will expire in 2016 and the then-76-year-old host is not expected to sign an extension.  Sony has, allegedly, been feeling out various personalities to take over the reigns of the long-running syndicated quiz show.  So far the two front running names are both news personalities.  It is being reported that Today host Matt Lauer is currently at the top of the list. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is also being strongly considered. Click here to read more about each and to tell us what you'd think of either candidate hosting Jeopardy!.

Colby Burnett Wins “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions Thumbnail

Colby Burnett Wins “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions

Love him or hate him, Oak Park, Illinois, teacher Colby Burnett proved he is the best of the best this year on Jeopardy!.  Last night Colby won the 2013 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions and captured the $250,000 top prize.  Colby previously won the "Teacher's Tournament" and claimed $100,000 from that, so he's well over $350,000 in winnings from the Alex Trebek-hosted quiz show since just November.  Colby, essentially, locked up the tournament on Monday night's first of two Finals matches.  Colby ended that game with $22,200.  His next closest competitor had $4,800, so it would have taken a freak accident for him not to win.  The tournament's second place finisher, Keith Whitener, left with $100,000 while third place Kristin Morgan pocketed $50,000.  Click here to read more and to watch some of our favorite Colby moments.

Video: “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament Semifinal Match, For the First Time, Ends With No Winner

It's hard for a show that has been around for almost 30 years to make new moments, but for Jeopardy!, a first happened on yesterday's program. The second match in the Teen Tournament semifinals occurred yesterday, with Kelton Ellis leading Joe Vertnik and Tori Amos by a wide - but not uncatchable - margin going into Final Jeopardy. The category was "Capital Cities" and they were presented with this clue: "It's criss-crossed by dozens of 'peace walls' that separate its Catholic and Protestant neighborhoods." Each player wrote down their answers, but two things were in common as Alex went down the line revealing their responses and wagers: each contestant wrote down "What is Dublin?" and each contestant wagered the entirety of their total. Unfortunately for them, the correct response was "What is Belfast?" Click here to read about how the game finished, to find out what will happen on tonight's program and to see video of the moment.

Ratings Report: Syndies Hit More Season Highs, “Family Feud” Soars Even Higher Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Syndies Hit More Season Highs, “Family Feud” Soars Even Higher

The week of January 7th was a great time to be a syndicated game show. Just about every first-run program hit a season high with their ratings this week, putting them all in great standing. Wheel of Fortune stayed the pack leader this week, logging an average of over 11.8 million viewers this week, giving them a 7.6 household rating. That's one-tenth of a rating point more than the previous high and is over 800,000 viewers higher than last week's viewership. Jeopardy! is ringing in for joy as well, as its previous high this season was just over 9.9 million viewers. This week, they accounted for almost 10.5 million viewers coupled with a 6.8 rating. The Sony squad is happy to hear that, I'm sure. Click here to read about the numbers for other shows this week, like Family Feud, Millionaire and Newlywed Game.

Ratings Report: Big Money Shatters Another “Family Feud” Record, How Much Further Can They Go? Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Big Money Shatters Another “Family Feud” Record, How Much Further Can They Go?

Syndicated ratings are in for the first week of 2013! These are ratings from the week of December 31, 2012 and one show in particular has really good news. But we will start first with our two traditional toppers. Wheel of Fortune begins to recover from the holiday season breaks, gaining back 150,000 viewers and inching up two-tenths of a ratings point, finishing with just fewer than 11 million viewers and a 6.9 household rating. Jeopardy! shows the wackiness of the correlation between overall viewers and the household rating, as it loses 40,000 or so viewers but gains a tenth of a point to go to a 6.0 rating. Click here to read about the new record-setting numbers Family Feud delivered this week and to weigh in on how much farther you think they will be able to go.
