News Flashes: “Oh Sit!” Debuts; HD “Family Feud”; TLC Orders Decorating Game

We've got some smaller stories we want to share with you before, hopefully, the Los Angeles Kings win the Stanley Cup today. First, The CW has set a debut date for their new game show Oh Sit!, formerly titled "Extreme Musical Chairs".  The obstacle course-based game show will debut Wednesday, August 15th, at 8:00PM ET.  Jamie Kennedy hosts with Jessi Cruickshank. Next, Family Feud is going HD this season.  It's the last of the syndicated game shows to take the leap.  Want to see what changes to expect from the show.  A YouTube user uploaded some video from the set, shot from the actual TV cameras so you're not going to be watching a cell phone movie. And finally, TLC is taking time away from showing reality shows about midgets to go back to their roots: home decorating shows.  This one has a game show twist.  The network has ordered the new competition decorating show Four Houses from ITV Studios America. Click here for the debut date of this show, the video of Feud, plus more information on all three stories. Be sure to let us know what you think.

GSN Acquires “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader”; Debuts November 6th Thumbnail

GSN Acquires “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader”; Debuts November 6th

GSN has acquired the rights to the hit Fox game show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.  The Jeff Foxworthy hosted quiz show, which tested adults on material that appears somewhere in fifth grade text books, will begin airing Sunday, November 6th, at 7:00PM ET on GSN.  Fifth Grader ran from 2007 to 2009 on Fox in primetime and from 2009 to 2011 in syndication as a half hour version.  The Hub currently airs the half hour syndicated episodes.  GSN has not indicated yet if this will be the hour long million dollar edition or not, but given the half hour edition airs with The Hub and both the syndicated half hour episodes of Deal or No Deal and Millionaire never did that well for them, I'd guess it would be the primetime episodes.  We'll let you know as soon as we find out.  Click here to watch a trailer GSN released.

Ratings Report: “Money Drop” Stabilizes Thumbnail

Ratings Report: “Money Drop” Stabilizes

We're now completely out of any form of 2010 ratings for syndication.  Updates for both last night's Million Dollar Money Drop and all of syndication for the week ending January 9th are in.  There's some relatively decent news for Money Drop.  Its ratings seemed to have stabilized and the viewers who like it are sticking with it.  Last night's show, with a record $300,000 win, got a 3.4/5 rating.  On the surface, yeah, it's not the greatest rating on the planet, but it's pretty close to Minute to Win It which gets touted as the greatest thing to ever happen to game shows, and Money Drop is cheap enough. Click here to read more about the ratings for network and syndication game shows.

Ratings Report: “Family Feud” Hits Another High; “Baggage” Debuts OK

The ratings for the week ending January 2nd, the final week of 2010 before the new year, are out. For the holidays, fans of Family Feud should have been sending cards and presents to host Steve Harvey for saving the show. It's becoming a recurring theme around here, but yet again Family Feud hit a season high. The rest of the syndicated shows, except for one, also saw an increase. Next, GSN's Baggage entered a ten market test run this past Monday.  The ratings are out for the first two days and while it's not lighting the world on fire, in the grand scheme of things it's doing fine. We've also got the ratings for Million Dollar Money Drop, with more to come. Click here to read about all the ratings and what they mean.

Ratings Report: “Million Dollar Money Drop” Stays Level; “Family Feud” Continues to Impress

We've got lots of ratings for broadcast, syndicated, and cable shows, not to mention results of how the black and white shows GSN added for a two week trial period are doing.  But first, Million Dollar Money Drop had its first winner last night, giving away $80,000 to a couple.  The ratings stayed relatively level due to a weak lead-in. Next, GSN recently added black and white game shows to the overnight 3:00AM hour for a two week period.  If classic fans wanted them to stick around then people needed to watch.  They're apparently doing so. And in syndication, for the week ending December 12th, Family Feud continues to be in the forefront this season. Click here to read more about the ratings.

Ratings Report: “Family Feud” Hits Season High

New ratings for the the week ending November 21st are in, and the sweeps period was very good to games.  In particular, Family Feud is riding a high wave of critical praise and increased ratings since Steve Harvey took over as host.  The week ending the 21st saw Feud increase by 6% to a new season high of a 1.7.  It's slowly marching towards the 2.0 rating and I don't know when the last time that's happened for the show.  Most impressively Feud has increased by 31% season to date.  Looks like we'll be seeing Family Feud for some time to come. Ratings Report: “Millionaire” Hits Season High Thumbnail

Ratings Report: “Millionaire” Hits Season High

Ratings for the syndicated game shows have been updated, and for the week ending October 24th, Who Wants to be a Millionaire came out on top.  It rose a very nice 10% to a 2.3.  It's the highest rating the show has had in nine weeks, according to Broadcasting and Cable.  I think the ratings have gone on long enough right now to cement the fact that the people flipping out about the format change and crying doom are wrong.  It's doing just fine. Ratings for the rest of syndication, plus more comments, are after the break. Click "Read More".

Ratings Report: Most Shows Stay Flat

We've got some new ratings for the newest week of the syndicated season ending on October 17th.  The best news of any show was Wheel of Fortune.  It's the only show which managed to go up.  Wheel went up 2% to a 6.6.  Incidentally that's the season's highest rating for Wheel so nice job for them.  Wheel's companion show, Jeopardy!, stayed flat at a 5.5, and flat is as good as any other show did so that's good news for them. Find out the ratings for the rest of the syndicated game shows, plus Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop, after the break. Click Read More to see them all.

Ratings Report: Syndication Stays Flat

Not a lot to report this week, so we'll move through this week's ratings report quickly.  Week four's ratings are basically flat with a few exceptions.  The only shows to increase are Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, and Fifth Grader.  Wheel and Jeopardy! both went up 2% to a 6.5 and 5.5.  Fifth Grader recovered a bit from its last brutal week.  It's up 11% to a 1.0 rating.  I don't think that's enough to get the show to a third season, but we'll see. Read about some more national and international ratings after the break.

Ratings Report: Week Three Not So Great Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Week Three Not So Great

Ratings for the third week of the syndicated season are out and it wasn't incredibly positive for anyone.  The best anyone could do was stay level with week two, which is better than going down.  The most devastating of the group was Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.  The show's second week of new episodes tumbled a giant 31% to a .9 rating.  A 31% drop is not good no matter how you spin it.  It'll need to pick up or who knows if we'll see a third season. Read more for the rest of the ratings.
