CBS to Pilot Israeli Format “The Money Pump”; Now Casting? Thumbnail

CBS to Pilot Israeli Format “The Money Pump”; Now Casting?

UPDATE: CBS formally announced this today.  I just wanted to re-bump this story to the front since we broke the news way back on March 1st.  In case you missed it. Kevin Frazier of omg! Insider will host. Part of this is an assumption and part isn't.  What isn't?  CBS is doing a pilot for the Israeli quiz show format The Money Pump.  For those that didn't see us discuss it before, click here. Essentially a team of contestants answers questions as fast as they can by pressing choices on their monitors.  The longer they take, though, and the more money is drained from the Money Pump, which is just a big video screen. What part are we assuming?  We're being told they are beginning to cast for pilot contestants and this casting notice does further that assumption. Click here to read more, learn how you can be a contestant, and to see the pitch film for the format.

The CW Revives “Whose Line is it Anyway?” for New Season; Aisha Tyler Named Host

During the launch of all the improv comedy shows that have come over the past few years, people constantly say the same thing: why won't they just bring back Whose Line is it Anyway?.  Good news: they are.  Colin Mochrie today announced the previously-discussed rumors that Warner Bros. is bringing back the iconic improv comedy show for a new season.  Sources say that the new season will tape in April for "The Warner Bros. Channel".  We assume this means The WB's new entity, TheWB.com, but we're trying to verify this.  It is being reported that actress and comedienne Aisha Tyler will be the new host.  However, the old Whose Line cast will be back.  You can expect to see your favorites like Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, and others for a new series of improv comedy games.  Click here to read more and let us know what you think.

Rumor Control: Cedric the Entertainer to be Named New “Millionaire” Host?

Interesting rumor this morning from TVNewsCheck.  The site is reporting that the big rumor coming out of NATPE over the past few days is that comedian Cedric the Entertainer is going to be named the new host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  Current host Meredith Vieira announced she was leaving the show after eleven seasons on January 11th.  Disney-ABC declined to comment at the time and said they will only when the host has officially signed on.  Cedric the Entertainer currently stars in the TV Land sitcom The Soul Man which has been picked up for a second season.  As far as game shows go, Cedric hosted NBC's shortlived summer game It's Worth What? in 2011.  Click here to see some of Cedric's hosting experience and let us know what you think.  Do you think he'd be a good fit?

Rumor Control: ITV Looks to Bring Back “Catchphrase”

Revivals of classic, favorite formats seem to be pretty popular in England right now, especially with Challenge's Blockbusters doing very well.  Metro is reporting that ITV is looking at bringing another favorite back to the screen.  It's being reported that ITV is in talks to revive Catchphrase, which hasn't seen new episodes since 2002, with the format's owner DRG.  The show, which asks viewers to identify picture puzzles, is seen daily on Challenge.  ITV has shown interest in reviving past formats previously.  Late last year they shot a pilot for Play Your Cards Right (Card Sharks) with host Vernon Kay but ultimately passed on it.  Would you be interested in seeing the show return?  Watch a clip and let us know in the comments section by clicking here.

Report: Channel 4 Considers a Daytime Comeback for “The Bank Job”

The Channel 4 live quiz show The Bank Job may not be dead after all.  After relatively lackluster average ratings for the two series, BroadcastNow is reporting that the George Lamb hosted quiz show could come back as a daytime program.  Channel 4 is currently deciding whether the series deserves that shot.  The Bank Job sees four contestants answer questions and take money from inside a bank's safe deposit box.  You need to be out of the vault with the most cash before the clock hits 0 to win. A series of format changes would be expected with a daytime version. Click here to learn more about the possible new version.

We've teased it on Facebook and Twitter over the past few hours.  For American fans of the ITV game show The Chase, we've got some very good news.  Our sources are telling us that an American version of the popular quiz format is going into production.  This is just a pilot and not going to series yet, but it's a step in the right direction.  The same sources are telling us that this is going to Fox.  Our sources have never been wrong yet and there's no reason to doubt them on this one.  No information on host, Chaser(s), or format have been made public yet but we're hunting it down.  It's expected to have some changes for an American production, though.  Click here to learn more about the show.

Australia’s Seven Looks to Revive “The Price is Right”

We're starting this week's updates with a story from Australia.  MediaSpy is reporting that Seven's now-canceled popular game show The Price is Right (obviously based on the American version) is being eyed up for a revival.  Seven currently airs the long running daily version of Deal or No Deal hosted by Andrew O'Keefe, but its ratings have been shrinking for years.  It is now losing to competing daily game show Millionaire: Hot Seat.  These shows are important to the networks because they provide the lead-in to their 6:00PM news.  They are weighing the options of a primetime version or another daily edition.  Click here to read more about the Australian version of the show, and to see some clips from it.

Rumor Control: ABC’s “You Deserve It!” Debuts November in Post-”Dancing With the Stars” Slot

It's rare that we get some actual news on the weekends but we've got something interesting.  ABC has been doing heavy casting for their new quiz show You Deserve It!, hosted by The Bachelor's Chris Harrison.  The quiz show lets contestants play for someone else which leads to a surprise reveal of the cash.  The game wasn't anything that new or special but it's very obvious that the point is the emotional ending which goes well with ABC's female driven base.  We may have a debut date.  Click here to learn more.

Rumor Control: Soaps Leaving ABC; Talk and Games Moving In? Thumbnail

Rumor Control: Soaps Leaving ABC; Talk and Games Moving In?

We're always following television news.  We, of course, heard about the rumors that ABC was canceling one of their soap operas.  I don't like them, so works for me, but the word was it was being replaced by a talk show possibly so no reason to report it.  However, there is now.  Yesterday, TV Guide reported that ABC may be canceling both of their soap operas.  What will be replacing it this coming Fall?  They are saying a talk show and a "reality show".  And by reality show, they mean game show.  Game shows are dirty words now.  Click here to read more about TV Guide's speculation.

Rumor Control: “Million Dollar Money Drop” Returns This Summer; Gets Board Game Thumbnail

Rumor Control: “Million Dollar Money Drop” Returns This Summer; Gets Board Game

Given the ratings and the overall reception the show got, as it got past its initial week-long event and sped the game up, this may not be a total surprise.  An Endemol insider is telling readers, through Bother's Bar, that the Fox game show Million Dollar Money Drop will return this summer for a new series of episodes.

The show averaged around five and a half million viewers generally during its first run, nearly identical to what Minute to Win It got during its initial run this time last year (and still gets).  And as we say constantly, Money Drop is cheap in broadcast network terms, it's good time filler, and it did well enough to deserve another season.  Click here to read more, and for some facts backing this up.
