ABC Orders Word Game “Spell-Mageddon”

Cable networks across the board are seeing the value of game shows: they're cheap and tend to do well.  ABC Family is getting back into our genre with the pick-up of Spell-Mageddon.  The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed the story earlier today.  The series has been described as Wipeout meets a spelling bee.  Contestants are challenged to spell increasingly difficult words while coping with equally difficult and hilarious distractions.  If you've checked out Los Angeles-based Craigslist contestant calls recently, odds are, you've seen something about this.  The series will debut Wednesday, July 24th, at 9:00PM ET.  Does it sound like something you'd watch?  Click here to let us know.

CBS to Pilot Israeli Format “The Money Pump”; Now Casting? Thumbnail

CBS to Pilot Israeli Format “The Money Pump”; Now Casting?

UPDATE: CBS formally announced this today.  I just wanted to re-bump this story to the front since we broke the news way back on March 1st.  In case you missed it. Kevin Frazier of omg! Insider will host. Part of this is an assumption and part isn't.  What isn't?  CBS is doing a pilot for the Israeli quiz show format The Money Pump.  For those that didn't see us discuss it before, click here. Essentially a team of contestants answers questions as fast as they can by pressing choices on their monitors.  The longer they take, though, and the more money is drained from the Money Pump, which is just a big video screen. What part are we assuming?  We're being told they are beginning to cast for pilot contestants and this casting notice does further that assumption. Click here to read more, learn how you can be a contestant, and to see the pitch film for the format.

NBC Greenlights “The Million Second Quiz”

Exclusive: UPDATE: NBC has officially announced the new quiz show The Million Second Quiz. The show takes place over twelve days and nights, 24/7, and will take place live from an hourglass-shaped building in Manhattan.  Players have to play all day in order to avoid being eliminated.  After time runs out the champions will battle it out for the chance to win up to $10,000,000. At last word, each battle will be a one-versus-one affair. The base value of each question will increase as the bout progresses. After the question and choices are read, the money starts to tick away. The first contestant to buzz in freezes the money. If they're right they get the money. If wrong the opponent has a chance to steal. The most money at the end of the bout wins.  Click here to discuss the new quiz show, read more information about it, and let us know what you think..

Disney Channel Revives “Win, Lose, or Draw”

A classic drawing game is coming back.  TV Guide reports that Disney Channel is bringing back the 80s game Win, Lose, or Draw for a new season.  Justin Willman, who fronted The Hub's Scrabble Showdown, will oversee this revival.  Each episode will see a team of two kid contestants and one Disney star test their drawing skills.  TV Guide says this time, "the players' drawing board will utilize motion control, interactive multi-touch screen displays and graphic technology."  Disney Channel previously aired a kids version of the show, Teen Win, Lose, or Draw in the early 1990s.  The format first aired in 1987, hosted by Bert Convy.  Vicki Lawrence fronted a daytime NBC version for two years.  Scott St. John will executive produce.  Production begins in July.
