The Dutch are Better Than Us: “Lingo” 2012

GSN's Lingo took a long break in America due to stagnant ratings and a changing-of-the-guard at the network.  It was brought back in 2011 to the excitement of fans.  And that excitement was quickly washed away when they saw what happened to the format and show itself.  However, the show has been running virtually change free in the Netherlands since the 80s, and really without a change in look since around 2000.  They ran into the issue that GSN's original version did...it was too set in its ways and almost seemed unwilling to change to the times.  They finally updated the look and game in 2012 and, though this should come as a shock to no one, it blows the American updated edition out of the water.  Click here to learn about their update and to see some footage of the new set and game.

Ratings Report: “Lingo” Averages 389,000 Viewers in Debut Week Thumbnail

Ratings Report: “Lingo” Averages 389,000 Viewers in Debut Week

Given the high status that Lingo has on GSN, I don't think the debut week, in full, is exactly what was hoped for.  GSN's formerly highest rated show, seeing somewhere in the area of a 0.7 to 0.9 in its original run which made the show a fan favorite, averaged 389,000 viewers during its debut week on June 6th.  The show started out at usual debut levels but overnight it lost a large chunk of its audience, save for the show's much-advertised $100,000 grand prize win that they bumped to the debut week.  Click here for full debut week ratings, comparisons with Improv-A-Ganza and 1 VS 100, and syndication ratings.

News Flashes: “Identity Crisis” and “Lingo” Spoiler, and “The Cube” Special

It's been a very busy day for us today.  Here are some quick news stories to hold you over. First, Metal Flowers Media is looking for people to do a run through for a CBS game show.  The game is called Identity Crisis and it looks to be based on celebrity trivia. Next, we've got commentary on last night's episode of Lingo and why GSN chose to send such a poor episode to the press to promote the show instead of decent episodes like this. It comes with a big money spoiler for this week. Finally, we've got information on a special celebrity episode of The Cube this Saturday. Click here for all three.

Season Premieres of “Baggage” and “Lingo” Tonight; Write Your Review

Two season premieres are tonight on GSN.  The first is Baggage which will largely stay the same.  That season debut is at 7:30PM ET.  8:00PM ET will be the one more of us will be paying attention to, though.  It's the season debut of Lingo.  It's almost enough to be a series debut.  After a long break the show has a new set, new rules, new host, new music, and new top prize of $100,000. We've shown some previews, clips, and reviews and reception has been lukewarm so far.  However, what do you think of the full episode?  Be sure to tell us what you think in the comments.

GSN Ramps Up “Lingo” Promotion with Two New Clips and Online Game Thumbnail

GSN Ramps Up “Lingo” Promotion with Two New Clips and Online Game

GSN's Lingo, a revival of the network's former top rated original show, begins Monday.  The new version is hosted by Bill Engvall and stays true to the most part.  New additions include clues to the word in the form of jokes and a new end game where answering five words correctly in 90 seconds for $100,000.  With the show starting Monday at 8:00PM ET, GSN is going, for lack of a better phrase or joke, balls to the wall with promotions.  We already shows off one clip of the show.  GSN released two new clips showing off the way the clues and the new edgy humor of the show works.  I'm really curious to see what you think of them. Click here to see them and play the new online game.

Again, it's summer and anything of actual substance is winding down, so if we missed anything be sure to let us know. Click here to read the updates.

This Weekend in BuzzerVision Thumbnail

This Weekend in BuzzerVision

I hope you all had a good weekend.  A few interesting moments happened over the past few days around the world.  One happened today and will be coming in as soon as we can.  However, for now, we've got two clips. First we have a third preview updated version of Lingo. Remember, in our official review, I discussed my issues with the tone of the show, the clues, and the contestants?  GSN actually uploaded a clip that displays what I feel could be a problem for the show right as the review went up. Next, we've got a scream-at-the-monitor look at this weekend's The Cube. We've got some Deal or No Deal coming later. Click here to see all the clips.

GSN’s Updated “Lingo” is ROUGH, R-O-U-G-H Thumbnail

GSN’s Updated “Lingo” is ROUGH, R-O-U-G-H

It's incredibly hard to screw up GSN's upcoming version of Lingo, debuting June 6th at 8:00PM ET.  It's just people guessing five lettered words and playing Bingo.  You'd figure it would be next to impossible to find ways to botch the job.  The network sent out screeners of an upcoming episode.  The Bill Engvall hosted updated version is far from bad.  They just made a lot of decisions which make no sense, and the show pales in comparison to the former version.  Click here for the full review.

GSN Releases Previews of the New “Lingo” Thumbnail

GSN Releases Previews of the New “Lingo”

I'm starting to get nervous about the updated version of Lingo coming to GSN this June.  When the rules were first leaked some of the changes announced were confusing and without any merit for change, but it was far from the end of the world.  When it was announced Chuck Woolery wasn't returning, it was equally confusing but we were told that GSN is very adamant on having A list hosts now, and we can see Bill Engvall doing well.  GSN released two previews of the new show.  After seeing it, I'm starting to get a very bad feeling.  It's blending in with the network's current M.O. of solely host driven light-on-content shows too much.  Click here to see the previews.

Rules to GSN’s Updated “Lingo” Leaked Thumbnail

Rules to GSN’s Updated “Lingo” Leaked

The always helpful Hollywood Junket leaked the rules to the new version of Lingo, GSN's hit word guessing game now hosted by comedian Bill Engvall.  The former version, originally hosted by Chuck Woolery, was as simple as can be.  Guess five lettered words and get a bingo to earn points, and win the game and you answer words for two minutes to earn balls and win the jackpot.  Its simplicity could have harmed it.  It made few changes, ratings remained stagnant despite new episodes, and it faded.  Changes were made to the new edition as promised.  Click here to read all about the new rules. UPDATES: A few clarifications and changes were made. Look inside for the new information.

“Lingo” Begins Taping Monday, April 4th; Be in the Audience

GSN's revival of their revival Lingo is coming close to reality.  The new Bill Engvall-hosted edition has been casting for some time and it's taping time.  The new series will begin taping this coming Monday, April 4th, in Los Angeles.  The game play is essentially the same but a few twists and turns have apparently be added, so we'll keep you updated as to what they are once we figure it all out.  If you're going to be in the Los Angeles area and you're free for either taping, click here to get involved.  Should be fun.  Let us know how it goes.
