“The Million Pound Drop” Returns in June With Bigger Teams and Bigger Stakes
After a long break, Channel 4's quiz show The Million Pound Drop is coming back. The network has announced the Davina McCall-hosted game will return this June. The twelve-part series starts June 14th and will run for six consecutive weekends. Long time fans can expect to see several changes. One of the biggest ones is that larger teams are now able to participate. The Drop will now see teams of up to four compete for £1,000,000. Previously only teams of two were allowed. Some are returning favourites with some new shows and a special revival of a 1980s classic. Here are the details to what is planned for the festive period. BBC One Given the huge popularity of the London 2012 Olympic Games over the summer. The BBC have decided to bring back 80s sportsfest, Superstars. The original show featured many sport stars taking part in sports that were unfamiliar to them with the finale taking place in the gymnasium for the gruelling gym tests. We've had a few new game shows pop up recently and I wanted to be sure to share the nice success stories we've had for the genre. The biggest recent success is Nick's revival of Figure It Out. It seems the new series left off where the old one did...it's a big hit. The show has been averaging over 2.5 million episodes for its debut week. Over in the United Kingdom, BBC's Saturday special Pointless Celebrities scored big for the network. The celebrity special of BBC's hit daytime quiz show scored 3.47 million viewers and a 19.2% share. We've also got syndicated ratings for you. The Million Pound Drop, Channel 4's popular interactive live quiz show, is doing something pretty interesting for its newest series starting this Friday at 8:30PM UK (3:30PM ET). Sometime this series, one celebrity and one civilian contestant will be paired together to play the game. The details aren't fully released yet, but for the first time one regular contestant will step onto stage with one of the various celebrities The Drop manages to get and try to win up to £1,000,000. Logic would say they will split the money between the civilian and the celebrity's charity, but that hasn't been announced yet. We'll give you all the details when they are released but until then be sure to watch the newest series of The Million Pound Drop starting this Friday at 8:30PM live on Channel 4. Congratulations are due to Channel 4's popular live quiz show The Million Pound Drop. The Davina McCall-fronted quizzer won the award for best game show at this year's Rose d’Or Festival. It managed to beat ITV's The Cube and the Israeli format Still Standing which seems to do moderately well in every country except America. I wonder why. Congratulations to Endemol and Drop. It's still a fun, exciting quiz and we're glad to see it do so well. Throughout this week, Channel 4 are airing a special Christmas series of The Million Pound Drop: Live. It started on Monday evening and will conclude tomorrow evening (Friday). There has been a few moments within the short series so far. Comedian Micky Flanagan winning £25,000 for his charity on Monday and best friends, Craig and Seve managing to beat the drop last night at the start of the show to win £100,000. The Million Pound Drop is back and live. Davina McCall returns as host on the show that gives contestants £1,000,000 up front. They need to keep as much of it as they can through a series of eight questions as they hedge their entire bank in each round. Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop Live will wrap up their fifth series tonight. Over the course of the last six weekends, it has produced many high scoring payouts with couples winning £200,000 and more. Endemol and Channel 4 have given away more than £1 million throughout this series. More money than the last four series and Christmas specials added together. Today we have two clips from this series. The first clip was taken from 24th September and features comedian Jack Whitehall and his father, Michael Whitehall.
