It was announced earlier today in the football/soccer world that existing manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has taken the decision to retire from managerial duties from the end of this season. After nearly 27 years at the club, he has managed to win a total of 28 trophies, making him the most successful manager in English football history. More information coming soon but I feel like this is the announcement most of you will care about: GSN has announced an American version of ITV's popular daytime quiz show The Chase. Each episode sees a team take on a quiz expert in head-to-head challenges for tens of thousands of dollars. At the end of the show any surviving team members face off against "The Chaser" one more time for the tense "Final Chase". If they outrun The Chaser one final time the team will split their bank evenly. Get caught, though, and they leave with nothing. The ITV edition has become a popular daytime staple for the network, averaging well over three million viewers a day and topping the daytime quiz charts. Fox shot a pilot for stateside version in 2012 but it was not picked up. The pilot was hosted by UK host Bradley Walsh and The Chasers were UK import Mark "The Beast" Labbett and Jeopardy! champion Brad Rutter.

I don't think there's been a show that's been as retro as ITV's revival of Catchphrase in a while. There's no gambling your winnings, there's no empty-handedness for the second place finisher, there's no terrifying lights or music. It's just relentless game, puzzles, and what made the original so fun. If you liked the brief US version from the 80s odds are you'll get into this one, too. It picks up where the previous version left off, adds a few tweaks, modernizes it a bit, and delivers a very entertaining hour. If you're a game show fan in the United Kingdom, you're going to have a very busy weekend. Saturday and Sunday are virtually bursting with genre offerings anywhere you look. The two we'll be keeping an eye on the most are ITV's Catch Phrase and Channel 4's 5 Minutes to a Fortune. The latter, 5 Minutes to a Fortune, starts this Saturday, April 6th, at 5:10PM UK (12:10PM ET). Davina McCall (The Million Pound Drop, Big Brother) hosts. Each episode sees a team compete in five challenges within five minutes in order to save as much cash as possible from an ever-draining larger-than-life hourglass. Then, on Sunday, April 7th, a classic game returns. After an eleven year break, Catchphrase comes back to ITV with new episodes at 6:45PM UK (1:45PM ET). The weekly show hosted by Stephen Mulhern simply asks contestants to "see what they say." Beyond those two exciting new shows there are several others on this weekend. Does anyone have what it takes to beat The Cube? We'll find out in just a few weeks. ITV has announced the sixth series of the futuristic stunt game hosted by Phillip Schofield will begin on Saturday, March 2nd, at 8:15PM UK (3:15PM ET). Each episode sees contestants try to complete seven seemingly easy games to win £250,000. However, nothing is easy once inside The Cube. The last series ended December 2012. Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah became the first person to beat The Cube and take home the jackpot. Can we get the first civilian winner this time? ITV has recently renewed the series for a seventh series which begins recording next month. This will take The Cube, which began in August 2009, to over 50 episodes in the course of four years. Mo Farah's jackpot win was voted the best game show moment of 2012 by BuzzerBlog readers during the Best of 2012 countdown.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire (or Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in England for some reason) has some special celebrity shows coming up. Whether you live in the United States or the United Kingdom you'll see some stars play to win a million for charity. Here's a rundown of what to expect wherever you are. The US syndicated version, hosted by Meredith Vieira, will welcome History's American Pickers stars Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz to the million dollar table on Friday, February 1st. They'll be playing for America's Vetdog, an organization that provides assistance dogs and training to disabled veterans and active service members. Then, ITV has announced new episodes of the celebrity edition of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. The episodes will record on February 11th and 12th at 6:30PM and 5:45PM, respectively. We've got some good news this afternoon for fans of ITV's daytime game show The Chase. The Bradley Walsh hosted quiz has been recommissioned through 2014. ITV has ordered 324 episodes. This consists of 300 daytime episodes split between series seven and eight along with 24 primetime celebrity editions. This will bring the entire series library to over 600 episodes. The Chase has boosted the time slot's average by 1.1 million viewers, a year-to-year increase of 39%. It also regularly beats its rival, BBC's Pointless.
