“The Million Pound Drop” is Back and Looking for Contestants

It's back.  If you live in the United Kingdom, it's your chance to face The Million Pound Drop.  Channel 4's quiz show, hosted by Davina McCall, is returning soon with a new series of episodes.  Each edition gives a pair of contestants the chance to win £1,000,000 by spreading bundles of £25,000 across answers they feel are correct.  They must leave one zone open at all times, though.  Wrong answers drop, so if you have no money on the right answer, it's game over and you leave with nothing.  The record win stands at £300,000.  Will anyone beat that? Click here to apply, watch a clip, and learn more.

“Deal or No Deal” Goes to Space for Banker’s Birthday Week Thumbnail

“Deal or No Deal” Goes to Space for Banker’s Birthday Week

If you watched Channel 4's Deal or No Deal today like I did, you saw another one of the show's great themed weeks.  As always, the Noel Edmonds-hosted game celebrates The Banker's birthday (@officialbanker) in a spectacular way.  They went, possibly, beyond anything they've done before this week with "Deal in Space."  The set has been dressed up to represent a space ship (U.S.S. Enter-to-win-a-prize), and the contestants are decked out in space gear.  The boxes even got a touchup.  One thing remains though: contestants battle the Banker to win £250,000.  Click here to read more about the week, a special gimmick, and to watch a trailer.

Weekend Replay: Team Versus Paul Sinha for £51,000 on “The Chase” Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: Team Versus Paul Sinha for £51,000 on “The Chase”

With GSN's adaptation of The Chase coming awfully soon, and with the current great ITV edition still going daily, I want to be sure to showcase the best that the intense quiz format has to offer.  Luckily, if you watched it this week, you saw a few great matches.  Monday's, in particular, is arguably in the top three Final Chases of all time.  Our team has managed to bank a massive £51,000 throughout four rounds.  To win it they have to outrun the Chaser, Paul Sinha, one final time in a relentless two minute marathon of questions.  If they can't beat him, though, they'll leave with nothing.  Can the team take away one of the biggest paydays in the show's history?  You aren't going to want to miss this.  It's impossible to be any closer. Click here to watch and let us know what you think of the exciting moment.

Weekend Replay: “5 Minutes to a Fortune” Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: “5 Minutes to a Fortune”

This past week Channel 4 debuted their newest afternoon quiz show 5 Minutes to a Fortune.  The game, hosted by Davina McCall, sees a team, face five rounds that test their mental and logic skills while facing a 15-foot hourglass containing the team's bank.  One player, the Time Keeper, will allot any amount of time from the time bank to complete the round.  If the Game Player cannot successfully answer five questions within the time set, the hourglass will turn and their money will drain. It's a fun, unique show with an interesting and visually impressive gimmick that works well. It's essentially a trivia version of The Cube.  Hard to go wrong with that. Want to see what we're talking about? Click here to watch the first round of the show, to read our brief review, and to let us know what you think.

GSN Announces US Adaptation of ITV’s “The Chase” Thumbnail

GSN Announces US Adaptation of ITV’s “The Chase”

More information coming soon but I feel like this is the announcement most of you will care about: GSN has announced an American version of ITV's popular daytime quiz show The Chase.  Each episode sees a team take on a quiz expert in head-to-head challenges for tens of thousands of dollars. At the end of the show any surviving team members face off against "The Chaser" one more time for the tense "Final Chase".  If they outrun The Chaser one final time the team will split their bank evenly.  Get caught, though, and they leave with nothing.  The ITV edition has become a popular daytime staple for the network, averaging well over three million viewers a day and topping the daytime quiz charts.  Fox shot a pilot for stateside version in 2012 but it was not picked up.  The pilot was hosted by UK host Bradley Walsh and The Chasers were UK import Mark "The Beast" Labbett and Jeopardy! champion Brad Rutter.

Review: “Catchphrase” Good, Retro Fun Thumbnail

Review: “Catchphrase” Good, Retro Fun

I don't think there's been a show that's been as retro as ITV's revival of Catchphrase in a while.  There's no gambling your winnings, there's no  empty-handedness for the second place finisher, there's no terrifying lights or music.  It's just relentless game, puzzles, and what made the original so fun.  If you liked the brief US version from the 80s odds are you'll get into this one, too.  It picks up where the previous version left off, adds a few tweaks, modernizes it a bit, and delivers a very entertaining hour. Click here to learn more about the show, read our thoughts, and watch some of the first episode. Let us know what you think.

ITV and Channel 4 Debut New Games This Weekend

If you're a game show fan in the United Kingdom, you're going to have a very busy weekend.  Saturday and Sunday are virtually bursting with genre offerings anywhere you look.  The two we'll be keeping an eye on the most are ITV's Catch Phrase and Channel 4's 5 Minutes to a Fortune.  The latter, 5 Minutes to a Fortune, starts this Saturday, April 6th, at 5:10PM UK (12:10PM ET).  Davina McCall (The Million Pound DropBig Brother) hosts.  Each episode sees a team compete in five challenges within five minutes in order to save as much cash as possible from an ever-draining larger-than-life hourglass. Then, on Sunday, April 7th, a classic game returns.  After an eleven year break, Catchphrase comes back to ITV with new episodes at 6:45PM UK (1:45PM ET).  The weekly show hosted by Stephen Mulhern simply asks contestants to "see what they say." Beyond those two exciting new shows there are several others on this weekend. Click here for the full story one ach show and let us know which one you're looking forward to the most.

The Cube is currently into its sixth series on ITV and it's still thrilling us week after week.  Yesterday's starting contestant, Kevin, returns in one of the strongest positions anyone on the Phillip Schofield-hosted show has ever been in.  He's already won £50,000.  He's starting the show on game six of seven, for £100,000.  Best of all he still has six lives, his Trial Run, and his Simplify lifelines for additional help.  Kevin is just two games away from beating The Cube and being the first civilian to win £250,000.  Can Kevin get passed his £100,000 game and, most importantly, does Kevin have what it takes to gamble it all for the shot at defeating The Cube?  Click here to watch this Cube moment to remember.

Weekend Replay: “The Common Denominator”

For this week's Weekend Replay we have a show many of our readers have probably not seen: Channel 4's new quiz show The Common Denominator.  In the past we've joked that it's, essentially, the poor man's Only Connect.  You're given two items (either two words, two pictures, or a picture and a word) and you must find the link.  While it is similar they've done enough to differentiate the shows. We're very excited to feature BuzzerBlog reader Daniel Peake this week. Dan beat the competition and is just six Common Denominators away from £10,000.  He has 45 seconds to do it or he risks leaving with nothing.  Can be become just the second ever to win? Click here to watch the exciting end game and to let us know what you think of the show.

Weekend Replay: The Banker Raps on “Deal or No Deal”

OK it's a delayed Weekend Replay but I think losing an hour of sleep gives us leeway.  The Banker from Channel 4's Deal or No Deal has always been a mysterious character.  Little is known about him.  Even less has been heard beyond the occasional laugh through the speaker of the phone.  What would be one of the few times we get to hear The Banker speak?  Why not during a rap?  One of the contestants this week is a pretty good rapper and showed his skills along the Walk of Wealth.  The Banker couldn't let that go without joining in. Click here to take a look at let us know what you think.
