Today, 18th May 2012 celebrates the tenth anniversary of the BBC One National Lottery quiz show, In It to Win It. It is not often in this generation of British television where primetime game shows for members of the public manage to stay on air for a decade. In the last few years, Only ITV's Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and Big Brother have been on longer on air in the UK. We look into the format, the success of the show and how it got it right to captivate the audience. In early 2002 the regulator of the National Lottery, Camelot wanted to rebrand the lottery. The Dutch are Better Than Us: “Lingo” 2012

GSN's Lingo took a long break in America due to stagnant ratings and a changing-of-the-guard at the network.  It was brought back in 2011 to the excitement of fans.  And that excitement was quickly washed away when they saw what happened to the format and show itself.  However, the show has been running virtually change free in the Netherlands since the 80s, and really without a change in look since around 2000.  They ran into the issue that GSN's original version did...it was too set in its ways and almost seemed unwilling to change to the times.  They finally updated the look and game in 2012 and, though this should come as a shock to no one, it blows the American updated edition out of the water.  Click here to learn about their update and to see some footage of the new set and game.

UK Weekend Replay: All or Nothing on The Cube

Followers of this website might have read my article a fortnight ago where I asked whether The Cube has Become Harder to Win? It wasn't conclusive as we were only three shows into the latest series but many of the views from posters agreed the show has become harder on the basis the first games were set at a higher difficulty, and the new games introduced were harder. Forcing contestants to waste numerous lives and their Simplify early on. The clip we have for you is taken from last Sunday's episode. We have seen the youngest contestant on the show, Isaac being defeated by The Cube. Can the second contestant, Karen win £50,000 by completing Construction. She has two lives and a Trial Run remaining. [stream provider=video flv=x:/www.fl

UK Weekend Replay: Noel Gets the Boot Thumbnail

UK Weekend Replay: Noel Gets the Boot

Since January, Deal or No Deal has been extended from 45 minutes to 60 minutes. Meaning an extra 15 minutes to fit in more banter between Noel and the 22 contestants and more time to see the contestants decide whether to deal the offers or not. An episode shown last month was a classic example where if it was shown last year it would've been on the cutting room floor. As you will see from the clip below. Noel receives a phone call from The Banker where he received a complaint from one of the contestants. What happens next is somethng that doesn't happen on a game show. Shooting Stars Does The Cube Thumbnail

Shooting Stars Does The Cube

To celebrate the return of The Cube this evening, we have a special treat. When game shows become popular, other shows make fun of it. The Cube has seen Harry Hill calling it The Cuboid as it doesn't look like a cube when seen on television. While BBC Radio 1 DJ, Greg James has created The Square. Which even featured a contestant called Philip Schofield. Comedy duo Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer have been running the celebrity quiz Shooting Stars for many years. With the show being off air in the early 2000s. It was brought back in 2009. This Week in UK Game Shows

It has been an eventful seven days over the pond in the UK. This week had the second week of Deal or No Deal live with all games being broadcast live on Channel 4. There have also been straight faces and and high risks The Chase. First we have Sunday's Deal or No Deal Live which featured contestant Kevin. The live shows are played the same as the recorded shows with some differences. The box openers are a mixture of friends and family for that player and former contestants from past shows. With some who played their show as far back as 2006. The live specials also had special guests who opened their box. Namely, McFly's Tom Fletcher and Harry Potter star Oliver Phelps.
