Farewell to Meredith Vieira: Alan Carver
We’re continuing to look back at some of Meredith Vieira’s most infamous and memorable moments on Who Wants to be a Millionaire as she finishes her run as host of the syndicated quiz show this Friday. Don’t forget that Cedric the Entertainer will take over as the new host starting this Fall so be sure to support him and keep watching. We asked you to tell us some of the best moments. Meredith’s true talent shined bright with her interaction with the contestants. Being the great interviewer she is, Meredith knew how to play to the contestant’s strengths and make them both at ease and entertaining for the home audience. Here’s one of those great contestants she got to have some fun with: Alan Carver.
The clock years of Millionaire (season seven and eight) gave us a few memorable contestants but, perhaps, none more-so than Alan Carver. He had a strategy which was never really discussed during the show, which may have helped a bit. We never got to it in live play but any time left over on each question is banked. If the contestant reaches the million dollar question they’ll get 45 seconds plus whatever extra time has been banked to think. It was an unspoken rule that contestants could interrupt Meredith to bank more time. No one even really did it except Alan. It was an interesting strategy that almost paid off. He was also a contestant during the Tournament of Ten stunt and his speed almost helped him there. We’ll get to that soon, though. Sure, it came off as slightly awkward but it gave Meredith a chance to shine and some of her most memorable interactions ever.
Take a look back.
