Warner Bros. Options Quiz Format “The Big Steal”
I always like to showcase new and upcoming formats whenever I can, especially when it’s one which you can see popping up in one of our usual territories of American, England, or Australia eventually. This week Warner Brothers announced they have optioned the new quiz format The Big Steal. It comes from two students at the National Film and Television School. BroadcastNow says that it’s the fourth original format in the last two years to be optioned from NFTS, and the first optioned by the international formats division. The format was developed by André Sousa and Anti Reinthal. Each show gives contestants the chance to win big money if they know more than their opponents…and if they can hold their nerve.
On The Big Steal, each contestant is armed with £40,000. Contestants can steal money from opponents by answering a series of questions correct. Holding out some time before answering means you can steal more, but wait too long and you could lose. It appears to be a quizzed-up version of the old “chicken” game you’ve seen on shows like GSN’s How Much is Enough? or ITV’s The Colour of Money. The show also features extensive play-along capabilities online and on connected devices.
Andrew Zein, senior vice president, creative, format development and sales for Warner Bros, told BroadcastNow, “The Big Steal fits in well with the type of formats we are looking for, entertainment shows that are original, well structured, with the capacity for returning series and a concept that will travel well around the globe.”
Check out a short sizzle reel below. We’ve obviously seen this kind of show repeatedly, but it’s apparently one people keep buying. If big companies like Warner Bros are getting behind it and quizzes are hot in countries like England right now, I wouldn’t be too shocked to see this show up in the next few years. What do you think of it? Is this a show you’d like to see?

You know the first thing I thought of was Russian Roulette, without the roulette part. I mean the whole challenge was to pick an opponent who you thought wouldn’t be able to answer the question or had the most money, just to take it and then get the chance for them to lose by chance.
Please, Warner Bros., tell us more about the rules. That seemed too vague to me.
I hope to see this in the US!
This is better than How Much Is Enough. You can almost call it a reboot of the series but in a better shape and form. Here’s hoping that it makes it here to the states.
I’m still waiting for The Money Pump.
This “Big Steal” reminds me too much of How Much Is Enough?
