“Deal or No Deal” Celebrates Valentine’s Day with “Hollywood Heartthrob” Week
Channel 4′s popular daytime game show Deal or No Deal always knocks themed holiday weeks out of the park, and they’re looking to continue this trend on Monday. Starting Monday, February 11th, the Noel Edmunds-hosted game will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special “Hollywood Heartthrobs” week. Edmunds, dressed as Director “Cecil B D’Edmonds”, will lead the other contestants, dressed as stars and starlets of the golden age of cinema, on their way to the £250,000 top prize.
As with all themed weeks there is a special gimmick. Players will choose someone in the wings to sit on the Hollywood casting couch which enables the contestant to receive an offer when that box is opened. The contestant on the casting couch will also get a chance to win a holiday if they can guess the value inside the box. Will we see £250,000 winner number six? Or is another member of the 1p club coming? Watch next week and find out.

That story gave me a nice chuckle this morning…sounds like they have some fun there across the pond!
I’m sort of indifferent about these valentines weeks. Sure, they discourage 11 box deals but they also encourage players to deal between 8 box and 5 box as even OHOs use the extra during that time unless the game completely falls apart.
You have to give the producers of this show credit, as they’re forever coming up with inventive ideas for themed weeks. That being said, you also have to wonder if the audience is getting tired of these themed weeks.
Deal’s been a ratings juggernaut for Channel 4 for just over seven years now, and it doesn’t look like they’re running out of steam just yet. This is probably the best international version of the show, and probably also one of the longest-running. If they maintain this steady pace, they’ll remain a powerhouse for years to come.
I just saw the banker post on twitter that “I’ve seen it all now, except a male Quarter-millionaire”, meaning we may see a first offer deal coming up soon. It wouldn’t surprise after the close call we had with Steph a few weeks ago.
Mark – Deal is beginning to run out of steam and it is struggling at the moment and kind of being hit on three fronts. BBC1 have dropped low rating kids shows and their daytime line up (mostly of shows nicked from BBC2) is rating well. ITV have countered this by putting Tipping Point (awful IMO) at 4pm which is beating Deal, while C4 itself have stupidly split Countdown and Deal or No Deal to squeeze in new rather cheap quizzes at 3.30pm which simply aren’t rating and any outsider can see that Countdown should have been reinstated to the 3.15pm slot by now as not only ha Countdown been hurt by the changes but viewers are leaving C4 at 3.30pm and not coming back.
