TBS Acquires Repeats of ABC’s “Wipeout,” Begins Airing Weekday Afternoons
An interesting bit of information has come out quietly today. TBS, which apparently is getting heavier into game shows than GSN has this month, has picked up reruns of the ABC hit game show Wipeout. The show will air at 2PM ET on weekdays starting today, replacing repeats of Rules of Engagement. The rights to air Wipeout repeats have been in the Time Warner family since sister network TruTV started airing them in Fall 2011. TruTV has a nice level of success airing repeats of the show in a block on Friday nights, so TBS will borrow the episodes to see if they can have similar success in propping up their afternoon schedule. This is one of the first non-sitcom/animated off-network acquisitions on the schedule in quite some time for TBS, so it’s almost weird to see a game show sandwiched between repeats of American Dad and Friends. If it does well in its sole schedule spot, don’t be surprised to see it peppered a little more frequently around the “Very Funny” channel’s lineup. Wipeout will launch its sixth season with new episodes on ABC later this year.

Really surprised GSN hasn’t made a push for Wipeout yet, with their success of stunt shows like Minute to Win It and Dog Eat Dog. Even though it is now on two cable networks, it would still be great to see them on GSN weekends
Cable see, cable do I guess
That brotherhood of networks have the exclusive rights, so GSN couldn’t get them even if they wanted them at this point.
Wipeout is on far too many channels these days. It’s almost hard NOT to find Wipeout airing on some station, especially over here in Canada, where it’s even airing on kids stations like YTV. TVTropolis was also airing it, alongside ABC of course. ABC Spark airs it as well.
Along with 5th Grader, Wipeout is the only other post-2007 primetime major network game show that keeps getting picked up for re-airing by multiple other cable stations.
Like I said, everytime I check my TV guide, Wipeout is listed at some time on some channel.
Maybe in Canada, but not here. Only ABC and the two Time Warner nets have it. And even then, it’s NOT on all the time.
What I would rather see is GSN get the rights to the UK version Total Wipeout with Richard Hammond. I prefer this version because its not as ridiculous and appears to have some athleticism.
