Buzzer UK: UK Christmas Game Show Preview 2012
Christmas is here once again with the UK major channels drawing up some game show treats for the next few weeks into the new year. Some are returning favourites with some new shows and a special revival of a 1980s classic. Here are the details to what is planned for the festive period.
Given the huge popularity of the London 2012 Olympic Games over the summer. The BBC have decided to bring back 80s sportsfest, Superstars. The original show featured many sport stars taking part in sports that were unfamiliar to them with the finale taking place in the gymnasium for the gruelling gym tests. It was known for having a memorable theme tune, Heavy Action. Which is well known to US viewers as the theme tune to ABC’s Monday Night Football. The show was brought back in 2003 and will be revived again for a one off show on Saturday 29th December. Gabby Logan, Iwan Thomas and Denise Lewis will be presenting. The sport stars include boxer Anthony Joshua, Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, Katherine Grainger and The Cuber beater and double Olympic gold medallist, Mo Farah.
The latest series of Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing With the Stars) reaches their conclusion on Saturday 22nd December with their yearly celebrity special to be shown on Christmas Day. Six new celebrities will take to the dance floor to impress the judges and the studio audience to become Christmas Champion. The stars include comedian Katy Brand, JB from boyband JLS and actress Sheila Hancock.
Celebrity Mastermind will also return for another ten show run from Thursday 27th December to Saturday 5th January. As always, well know celebrities try to score as many points as possible by answering questions on their specialist subject as well as general knowledge.
Although not Christmas related. It has been reported this week the National Lottery quiz show, Secret Fortune will be taking a break from broadcasting. Due to schedule conflicts with Wimbledon earlier this year, the BBC has yet to show all twelve shows from the latest series.
