“Millionaire” Featured on ABC’s “What Would You Do?” October 19th

This Friday, October 19th, viewers of ABC’s primetime news magazine What Would You Do? (9:00PM ET) will be getting some game show action mixed with the show’s usual hidden camera setups.  Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Meredith Vieira will be featured on the episode.  The setup: any time you go see Millionaire record in New York City (which I highly recommend) you get to take the test to be on the show.  What if you caught a test taker cheating?  Will anyone speak up or will the cheater get away with it?  Find out what audience members would do in this situation on October 19th at 9:00PM ET.  Meredith Vieira will join What Would You Do? host John Quiñones.  Photo courtesy Disney-ABC.

Our writer Bob Hagh was on set for this one and said it was pretty interesting.  Are you watching tonight?  If so, what did you think?

Here’s an idea. Maybe John Quiñones could be a contestant on who wants to be a millionaire. That would be an interesting show to watch.

  • Andrew L. Budny says:

If I attended a taping of Millionaire and took the test and saw the person sitting next to me copying from my paper, I would have grabbed a proctor immediately and reported it. It’s wrong to cheat, it almost like copying a term paper for a college course and claiming it as your own or peeking at a fellow classmates answer sheet and copying their answers from your sheet.

Overall it wrong to cheat, it dosen’t get you anywhere in life. It only makes things worse.

  • Wayne says:

I was just there on Tuesday afternoon and saw two cheating. What did I do?

Well I didn’t do anything, the way these guys were acting, there was no way they were going to pass the test; and I sure didn’t need to start trouble and draw bad attention to myself since I want to be on the show.

These two continued acting like morons, and even got kicked out part way through the taping.

I’m surprised the test was given in the audience seating area. It’s been years since I took the test, but I’ve taken it in a restaurant on 67th Street, across the street from the studio (they must have rented it out for that purpose), and later on ABC property, in what I presume to be the ABC cafeteria on street level.

    • Bob Hagh says:

This year, with “Millionaire” moving to their new studio, the set and testing section are on the same sound stage. The set is much smaller for that reason, and from years past, since about 2005 as I could recall, audiences members took the test after being seated in the audience.

Darn, I love WWYD but I missed this part. Are the tests the same for everyone? I was at a Wheel of Fortune audition in May and there were two different tests, one on yellow paper and one on pink, which were handed out so that no two people sitting next to each other had the same test.

    • Wayne says:

They are currently using the same test for everyone at Millionaire.

Used to be everyone had a different test that was different in the way that all the questions were the same, but in a different order; made it hard to copy from someone. For several years now, they’ve been giving everyone the same test in any given session. There is a different test each day or even session as a person can go to several tapings of Millionaire. WOF doesn’t need to mix up the tests as much because it’s hard to get invited to take it in the first place.

Millionaire uses a Scantron (fill in the dots, like an SAT) at their tests. When people had the “different” tests, they were set up so that the answers would be in the same order so they could just throw all the answer sheets through without rekeying the machine (giving me my theory that there are only 10 questions that matter on the Millionaire test).

I can’t speak for Fortune or Millionaire, but when I took the Jeopardy! test, it was the same questions for everyone in the room.
