GSN’s “The Pyramid” Debuts to 646,000 Viewers Thumbnail

GSN’s “The Pyramid” Debuts to 646,000 Viewers

It may have taken several years of pilots, format changes, and hosts, but Embassy Row finally has The Pyramid going strong on GSN. The Mike Richards-hosted revival debuted this past Monday, September 3rd, to 646,000 viewers. It also scored 158,000 viewers in the key Adult 18-49 demographic. This puts it not too far behind GSN’s current golden child, The American Bible Challenge, and ahead of their other new original game Beat the Chefs.  It also increased 24% from its lead-in, Family Feud.

Congratulations to Embassy Row and GSN. It’s a great show, well made, and fun to watch. They proved, yet again, they can make a good game.  Whatever they’ve done in the past few months…they need to continue. GSN is 2 for 3 with game shows and 2 for 2 with traditional games. They have great momentum. They need to keep it up. So, yeah, good luck with those “real life games” and other Pawn Star ripoffs.

Alright, that’s a spectacular number, hope to keep them over the 500k, heck I’ll be happy with anything over 300k… that’s really good for GSN! Great stuff, been watching the last 3 nights, love it, well done GSN!

  • rich cerasale says:

keep it up gsn. i hope they revive more classic game shows soon

Night 2 numbers will be key. How does this compare with some of the other originals they’ve had recently (Catch 21, Lingo, etc) Seems like some of them had decent night 1 numbers but then dropped off a ton. I do hope it works out though, it’s a great game and gets me thinking again about what other shows may realistically have a chance of a modern adaptation. I also think the earlier time slot works better for shows like this. It’s not a million dollar quiz, so it fits better in daytime or early fringe than primetime. Perhaps Russian Roulette, etc. would have done better in an earlier slot. There’s a ton of networks competing at 9 and 10 PM, so maybe 5-8 is a sweet spot to investigate further, especially before 7 since Wheel/J! are in at 7-8 in many markets.

I agree. This just goes to prove that GSN can make a good game show if they want to put forth the time and effort to do it right.

2 out of 3 isn’t bad. Although I’m not a big fan of Bible Challenge, at least it’s a traditional game show, and the obvious reason more people watched the premiere of it in comparison to the premiere of The Pyramid is because Bible Challenge got so much more promotion – Jay Leno, CNN, etc.

Honestly, I cannot see Beat the Chefs lasting much longer. And as you said Alex, GSN’s upcoming real life games and other Pawn Star ripoffs are going to fail miserably.

Hopefully someone up in GSN is paying attention to these ratings carefully. The two traditional game shows, Bible and Pyramid, scored highest in ratings. The reality-type cooking competition did not. And neither will any of these other upcoming “real life” games GSN has planned.

Stick to what you know best GSN – Game Shows. I’d like to see them revive some more classics to add more diversity to the schedule — Blockbusters, Password, Whew, Joker’s Wild — I’m sure some of these would be a nice change of pace.

Great numbers for a great new version! Gotta say, I was wrong when I was worried about the new rules. They really work! Couple of small tweaks here and there. But, overall, a great revival of my favorite game show! LONG LIVE “THE PYRAMID”!!!!!!!!

  • Myke25 says:

Great numbers for GSN. We need to keep them up. Let’s see a bump on Friday night.

  • Lee Hubbard says:

Let’s hope that next year they do a $100,000 tournament!

    • Sung says:

I would like it too, but I think they need a longer season to make it worthwhile. Right now, I think it’s better to get as many contestants going through there are possible, from all over the country preferably. If it’s only 40 shows so far, then I’d be curious as to when they would tape more (including lining up the celebrities–maybe after all of the prime time shows finish taping next year? I never thought about how easy/difficult it would be to get the celebrities during the production schedule to stop by for a week of show tapings).

  • Ben says:

Why did GSN bleep out one of the contestants yesterday? Was it because he was singing “Fly like an Eagle” to describe an answer and GSN didn’t want to pay the music clearance fees for that? Was really weird…

  • Mark says:

One thing is for sure…and this will drive the loons over at golden-Road.net nuttier…Mike Richards is a very good host, and can only get better.

A very good revival, and here’s to many renewals.

  • Chris says:

On the Thursday edition, when one of the contestants said she was from Cleveland, Mike definitely mentioned that he works with Drew Carey on The Price is Right.

Props and a plug if I ever heard one…

  • Ben says:

Call me crazy, but I like the work Mike has done on Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal. He keeps the main genesis of the show intact, while updating the show with modern prizes and other things. Let’s face it, the show was starting to go slightly stale with Bob. I like the wider variety of prizes, the special showcases, and the theme episodes. You can tell he’s a game show fan by how he keeps the main things and nostalgic factors in place while updating it for the current times. He’s doing just that on The Pyramid.

  • Dorvell says:

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again:

    Dick Clark would’ve been proud!

  • Joe says:

LINGOFAN97 on the GSN Boards is a post-whore who takes credit on Buzzerblog articles. Steals them claiming it’s her own.

  • Anthony says:

Excellent! once Season 1 of GSN’s The Pyramid succeeds, they’re will be Season 2 in the works.
