“Family Feud” Debuts 14th Season Today

Arguably the hottest game show on television right now is Family Feud.  Few other game shows in recent history have had such a meteoric rise from near-cancellation to massive success, and few game shows have as many people talking.  Steve Harvey, who returns for his 3rd season as host, is a big reason for this.  This is the year to look out for Feud and Steve.

This 14th season (the 36th year of the format) is a big one for Feud.  Due to its large gains last year the show has received many major time slot upgrades around the country placing it against heavy hitters like Jeopardy! or Wheel of Fortune or other popular syndicated programming.  A summer publicity campaign with Burger King, “Family Food”, also expanded its reach.  Couple that with Steve Harvey’s new talk show debuting to solid ratings last week and some analysts at Broadcasting & Cable believe Feud could reach the mid 4.5 to 5.0 rating mark, which places it pretty close to Jeopardy!.

Beyond the business end, though, this is the first season of Family Feud in high definition.  Viewers can expect to see some set and graphic updates.  However, it’s still the same hilarious format where two families compete to win $20,000 and a new car.  You can see a clip of the new HD Family Feud below.  The only game show left in standard definition is Let’s Make A Deal.

If you have a chance to watch today, be sure to comment and let us know what you think of the new season of Family Feud.  We’re going to be watching and we hope you are, too.  Congratulations to the show so far and good luck in the upcoming season.  It’s going to be an interesting year for the genre.

WE ARE EXCITED! Thanks to all the viewers that enjoy Family Feud. You are what it’s all about. What a fun day!

  • Scott Meckley says:

I love Steve Harvey’s version of Family Feud. There were times I laughed so hard I almost split a gut. I haven’t laughed like that since Ray Comb’s version of the Feud.

  • Jay says:

I like the new set and the HD graphics. But…and, this may sound dorky…I really like how the board “turns” between rounds. It kind of emulates the big “turntable” from Richard Dawson’s version.

  • Adam says:

After just the first episode of the new season, Already a DVR alert for tomorrow.

  • aaaa says:

This is Feud’s 30th total season in first run. The only years no version of Feud, counting reruns, aired in the US was September 1986-July 4 1988. This run of Feud is the third longest running syndicated game show of all time behind WOF and J!, and has been in third place for three years now.

  • Andrew says:

The HD and new “X Strike Graphics” a plus. Also, no more of those Comfort Inn break-ins to give support for the families to win Fast Money. Speaking of Fast Money they need to make Fast Money have a growing jackpot like the Woolery version of Lingo. Add $1,000 each time when Fast Money is not won.

  • DJinATL says:

The new set looks awesome and I love the updated graphics! Steve Harvey is as funny as ever. The only gripe is that the episodes are being shown out of order in Atlanta and also as a strip between 7-8 (against WOF and J!). Also with only 150 or so episodes made, there are only 15 weeks worth to watch. Last season there were many weeks with repeats. Guess you can’t have too much of a good thing tho!

  • Jared Oswald says:

I like the new $20,000 graphic.

  • Dave says:

Way to go “Feud!”. Love it. Keep up the good work!,

  • D.J. says:

I love the new graphics, including the red strikes and turn board. And DYK they stop using 1999 theme for good? It was only used for in-between commercials cue.

  • Family Feud says:

Sure is nice to read such positive comments. Thanks everyone for watching!!

    • The "Hitman" says:

Love the show and Steve Harvey. The only thing I miss is the introduction of the familys where you get to know what their relationship is to each other. I’m ta;lking about the old way where the first person introduces the others. I.E.: This is my wife, so and so, this is my wild daughter, so and so, this is my crazy Uncle Joe, etc. anyone else miss this?

      • Ben says:

Totally agree, Hitman. I want more of an introduction. I’d like the show to do the “Introducing the _______ family, ready for action, playing against the _________ family, on your mark!” and then Steve to ask the head of the family to introduce the family. I know we won’t get the former since Joey Fatone’s intro was prerecorded and played before every episode and the latter, well, Feud seems kind of rushed, so that’s probably kind of doubtful as well.

I’m glad they are down playing the number of sex related questions this season. Seemed like that’s all that was asked last season. Steve also seems to be downplaying the high number of times he would milk an answer for jokes. That’s helping the game to have a faster pace and not slow to a grinding halt. I still feel this show is rushed, but that’s pretty much par for the course for all game shows these days.

I honestly wonder how many more seasons Steve will host this show. He now tapes a talk show in Chicago this season. On top of that with his radio show (which has moved production to Chicago), his foray into writing for books and movies and his stand-up routine, Steve is a very busy guy. I hope he stays with Feud, as he’s become a great host, but I somewhat worry about that.

        • The "Hitman" says:

Good comments Ben. I agree that last season they got carried away with the sexual inuendo type questions. It seemed very forced. It was better the first season when those things would come up “innocently” from time to time.

Sometimes they let Steve go a little too long but other times you can tell hes been heavily edited. Still love the show though.

The car was won today. Were the Flammia family the holdover champions from last season?

  • Myke25 says:

Feud was preempted yesterday in Indy. The CBS station decided to air Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight instead of CBS tennis coverage. So they moved the tennis over to their sister station, the MyNetwork affiliate that airs Feud, preempting the season premiere.
Was kinda bummed. Hopefully, FF will be back tonight.

  • Adam says:

Don’t like the treatment Miami is Still getting. 10am, when other cities now air it in the late afternoons or early evenings? And it’s still on WSVN, which still constantly interrupts the Feud? What Gives?

    • Adam says:

Whoops! Correction: It’s moved to NBC 6 South Florida. That’s the good news. The bad: it’s on at the dreaded Noon Slot. Its competition: News on Three stations. Good luck to you, NBC 6.

      • Brandon W. says:

This season in Memphis, it’s airing M-F on ABC affiliate WPTY at 6:30pm, and CW affiliate WLMT at 10pm. Both stations have the same parent company, hence the same studios and transmitters.

  • Paco says:

I wish they would get rid of the 1988 theme and write a new theme.

  • Julia says:

I saw you say somewhere that you’ve seen much better ratings in some of your timeslot shifts. I’m curious to see how it’s doing in Philly, since this season, it’s up against Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! Thanks!

  • Teresa says:

My husband and I really enjoy this show, especially Steve Harvey! And we are really glad that they have backed away from so many sexual questions. Why don’t the episodes air in order?

  • Lee Hubbard says:

Does anyone know when the last taped show of the season will air? I suspect it will be May 24. I saw from a Twitter feed that Family Feud could be getting a new set next season.
