Watch: “Deal or No Deal” Celebrates 2,000 Episodes
Earlier today Channel 4′s popular daytime game show Deal or No Deal celebrated a major milestone. The Noel Edmonds hosted show had its 2,000th episode. Two thousand contestants have taken the Walk of Wealth in hopes of winning the £250,000 jackpot and spanking the Banker. There was some speculation about how they’d handle such a special occasion. Through all the rumors and supposed gimmicks, though, they commemorated the moment just about as well as they could. Noel also did a nice, subtle tribute to the show’s roots in the opening.
We’ll discuss what happened a bit lower, to avoid spoiling it for people.
Again, no one knew but the Banker, the independent adjudicator, and the contestant. They played it very well. They even had me up until the end. It’s also great to see Nong again, who arguably had the greatest win in the show’s history. It’s interesting to compare that to the video below. Check out the very first episode of Deal to see how much different the show is today while still essentially being the same thing. Seven years have gone by and yet Noel somehow looks younger than he did when he started. And his shirts are still just as awful as always.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Deal or No Deal. They put on a clinic of how to run this format. It’s a pretty cut-and-dry format which they manage to make new and exciting day in and day out. There are very few shows which both excite me and terrify me for an hour a day each weekday than this. It’s one of the all-time classic shows, we’re thrilled to see it reach 2,000 episodes, and we hope to see it for several thousand more.

Still the best version of “Deal” out there today, and actually, ever.
When will Noel Edmonds actually play? I thought he was supposed to play the 2000th show. Me and many other DoND fans would definitely like to see him spank that ever crueler banker.
I heard sometime in October on a prime-time special…
and you didn’t mention that for helping with the prank, they gave the contestant a trip as a surprise…which was nice I thought…
Hey, not bad going for a show which only had a scheduled first run of 66 programmes!
And Noel’s right about very little major change to the look of the programme. I think the biggest change must be something that the viewers never see – the industrial unit where the show is taped, as had a new roof.
And he still couldn’t resist saying that spurious statistic about how Deal has given away more money than any other daytime show in UK television history. Sounds impressive until you start to think that..
A) Full daytime entertainment based tv only started in the UK in 1988.
B) Only The Weakest Link gets anywhere close in terms of matching the episode quota (and even then it must be a good way off) so Deal really is in a class of it’s own, way out in front.
And the show (quite rare for any tv show) has never moved from Bristol – even when it went into primetime with the celebrity specials, the temptation to move it to ‘proper’ tv studio was resisted.
And to think ITV rejected it for the 5pm weekday slot – and Noel had to be approached twice for the presenters role. 2000 shows later and one broadcaster must still be kicking themselves occasionally, and one presenter must have been glad he finally said ‘yes, I’ll do it’.
Noel has been a brilliant presenter over the years and given so much enjoment to tv and radio audiences he is the only one in my opinion who could make the show the success it is well done Noel and heres to the next 2000 shows
The hunter becomes the hunted. Or in this case, the former “Noel’s House Party” host becomes the victim of a “gotcha”. Considering the contestant was preggers, I think it’s save to say plays to gunge Noel were nixed (if they were ever brought up).
