“The Price Is Right” Launches First-Ever Male Model Search
As Drew Carey hinted towards earlier this month, The Price Is Right is making advancements in their modeling department as they launch their first male model search in history. Throughout the show’s fortieth season, star of The Young and the Restless Daniel Goddard made occasional appearances on certain shows to model prizes as the first semi-regular male model and it was relatively harmless. Price is now expanding that idea, giving one lucky man a chance to model for an entire week. Auditions will begin at the end of the month in Los Angeles. Afterward, the chosen semifinalists will take place in a Price web series and visitors will be allowed to vote for their favorite model after viewing the videos. The winner, chosen by the public, gets the honor of participating as a model during a week of episodes airing in October. It’s an interesting concept that has a different spin on the model searches of the past, allowing a bit more variety and equal-opportunity eye candy for both sexes viewing the program. Somehow I think they’re looking for someone less pudgy than I, but I can rock an Armani suit with the best of ‘em.
Oh, there will be the blowing of heads and lots of sobbing over at golden-road.
I’m not generally against Golden-Road, and do think that at least some of the criticism of Mike Richards’ producing (and Drew’s hosting for that matter) has been justified. But I really do not see what the big deal is about this.
Holy crap! Is this turning into $ale of the Century?
…Or more European? Hmm.
…or AUSTRALIAN!?!?
Finally!!! I don’t know what has taken the show so long to get with it. It took 20 years to get an African American model and another 20 to allow men to model prizes. Hopefully, it will be received well and we will see a permanant male model added to the show. I have been a faithful viewer since 1993. My sister and I watched Price together all the time. We consider ourselves to be graduates of “Pennington University”. Janice will always be our favorite Barker’s Beauty. She sets the standard of true beauty, class, and elegance. I always dreamed of being able to join Barker’s Beauties growing up. However, I know they are not looking for someone in plus sizes. I used to think I still had a sporting chance until Drew Carey went and lost all that weight. Oh well, LOL.
“I don’t know what has taken the show so long to get with it. It took 20 years to get an African American model”
Just want to point out that 1) Kathleen Bradley was hired at the end of 1990 and 2) there WAS an African-American model in the earliest days: a lady named Harriet, who was only on Dennis James’ nighttime show.
Well, if the Brits were using them at least as far back as ’95 then I’d say this is horribly overdue. These past few years, in my opinion, have had many steps in the right direction for the show.
I think it’s great news, and it will definitely have me tuning in next season. Price is Right Québec had some male models on for certain specials, and it was great. Not to mention, I prefer male models over females any day, being gay and all.
