NBC Now Casting for “White Elephant”
NBC has begun casting for its new game show White Elephant. From Howie Mandel and the producers of Deal or No Deal comes the television adaptation of the popular holiday party game. Contestants select unmarked boxes from a warehouse containing millions of dollars in prizes. Each contestant is faced with the decision to keep his or her prizes that has been revealed or swap it for someone else’s unopened box. When only two contestants remain they must decide to Steal or Share the prizes they’ve earned during the game in a Prisoner’s Dilemma end game. The show is looking for contestants that live in (or plan on visiting) the Southern California area. You’ve got until September 14th so apply quickly. Click here to visit the casting page and apply. Tell them BuzzerBlog sent you. Good luck.

Remember guys, if you make it to the show and are not prohibited from doing it, if you make it to the end you should tell your opponent that you’re going to steal but will share the prizes with them afterwards. That way, they’ll have no choice but to pick split because if they pick steal you’ll both leave with nothing no matter what so s/he will have to trust you. Otherwise, chances are everyone will pick steal and nothing will be given away given how Friend or Foe worked out nearly every episode.
You do know virtually every show with a prisoner dilema directly bars what you suggest, right?
Golden Balls didn’t at first. You should see the Youtube video “golden balls. the weirdest split or steal ever!” and it shows you. But you’re probably right, a show that offers hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes usually has tough rules that make it really hard to claim it.
Chris, most game shows with the “Prisoner’s Dilemma” gave each player a bit of time to convince the other to pick “Share/Friend/Split/etc.” That means, should you wish, you may opt to do as the one guy did and say “I’m going to pick Steal/Foe/etc.” and completely change the game.
If “White Elephant” has a problem with that, the show is the only party at fault. Although if other recent primetime games are any indication, they’ll either redo the segment or disqualify that contestant/scrap the game.
Never heard of the party game, but this sounded interesting at first. Then I got to the prisoner’s dilemma part of the description. Where’s Kennedy when you need her to snark at the inevitable defectors?
We do a “Gift Swipe” at our Christmas Parties each year at work that kinda works like how White Elephant sounds like it will: Participants draw a number from 1 to whatever, and (in numerical order) pick gifts from the display, or swipe an opened gift from someone else. The swiped person must either go to the display and open the gift (ending the turn), or swipe from someone else. Nobody can be swiped twice in the same turn. Only difference here (with WE) sounds like the boxes remain closed until all have picked.
Oh look, this looks exciting, because Treasure Hunt.
If I’m reading this right it looks like “Treasure Hunt” (or “Deal or No Deal”) + “Friend or Foe”
Alex, when you say White Elephant is produced by the same producers of Deal or No Deal, do you mean that Endemol is behind the production?
I think Endemol would be a good choice for NBC getting back into the game show business, besides Wipeout, of course. They did of course produce DOND and 1 VS 100 after all.
When are these game show makers gonna get it through their skulls that the “Prisoner’s Dilemna” makes for short show lifespans?
The fact that everybody here complained about the ending of both series (seasons) of “Bank Vault” have proven that, along with the fact that neither “Friend or Foe” or “Golden Balls” has made it to a 3rd season.
You do know the real reason why Friend or Foe was cancelled, right?
If you don’t, here’s a hint: same reason as Russian Roulette. ;)
i think you mean “the bank job”
I did. Thanks.
