First Look: Comedy Network’s “Match Game” Logo

If you remember back to June, Comedy Network in Canada announced they are producing a revival of the classic 70s game show Match Game for the network.  The network will tape sixty 30-minute English-language episodes this summer from the set of the Montreal version called Atomes Crochus.  While Atomes Crochus went with a more modern logo, the Comedy Network version looks to be going back to the roots of the 1970 American version with a classic Match Game inspired logo.  It’s essentially the same old one updated for 2012.  I’m sure that should please many of you traditionalists that roam around here.

Check the logo out here.  While you’re at it, below is a clip of Atomes Crochus.  See what you can expect.  Anyone looking forward to this?

    OY…they’ve got Match Up too?

The French-Canadian version is heavily based off of MG ’90. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I’m surprised Comedy is actually producing a game show. Usually, Canadian game shows are cheap and give away cheap prizes, so we’ll have to see how this work. I’ll tune in, since I get the channel. Hopefully they get good celebrities and give away decent cash.

Now that’s a logo that says “STAR STUDDED BIG MONEY MATCH GAME!”

Alex, if you need further assistance on “Atomes Crochus”, you might want to give Ryan Vickers a buzz.

As I recall, he tried out for A.C. He’s the same Ryan Vickers who was in the audience to root Chad Mosher on to a $40K win on WWTBAM.

(Ryan was also a contestant on WoF here in the U.S. and “Countdown” in the U.K.)

THIS is what we need for a US revival of MG…classic logo & gameplay (skip the MG90 MATCHUP).

  • Jay says:

I love the logo. But, I hope the set gets a revamp. And, as others have already said, I hope they don’t use Match Up. I never liked it. But, MG on Comedy Central seems like a good fit. After all, Gene Rayburn, himself, often said he thought it was more of a comedy show.

LOVE this logo! This is EXACTLY what I’d imagine a revival here in the States to have!

As far as the Match-Up! thing goes, I actually consider that a plus. It was a good way to add a “game” aspect to the series (not that the series needed one, but the “game” part does tend to get lost in, well, everything else), and to me it paves the way for a better scoring format than the red circles and green triangles of old.

This is, I believe, the second time that the same format has been used on the same set in both English and French. From 1987-1991, the same Montreal-based set was used for “Chain Reaction” with Geoff Edwards in English and “Action Reaction” with Pierre Lalonde in French. Lalonde had previously hosted a show in English for CTV called “The Mad Dash” from 1978-1985.

It’s reported by newswire.ca that Match Game will be premièring on Monday October 15 at 8pm. Here’s the link for more details. http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1023595/two-new-original-series-and-returning-favourites-keep-canadians-laughing-this-fall-with-the-comedy-network

I spent this past week on set and enjoyed every minute of it. This remake reminds me so much of the 70′s Classic!

As the previous poster mentioned it will begin airing from Monday to Friday on Comedy Network starting October 15th, 2012 at 8:00pm. They recorded 60 episodes that will be aired in random order since there are no returning contestants and the shows were produced to fit in a 30 minute slot. (21 minute show time).

I posted some pics and a story of my experience on my blog:
