“Don’t Blow the Inheritance” Debuts August 20th; “The Cube”, “Celebrity Chase”, and Other Return Dates
The United Kingdom has a wide range of game shows and other unscripted television formats returning in August and September. Odds are whether you like comedy, quizzes, or just general competition there will be something for you in the next few weeks. The list is large so here’s condensed information for each.
*In case you missed it BBC One’s Pointless returned yesterday after a small hiatus. New episodes air each weekday at 5:15PM UK (12:15PM ET) on BBC One. Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman host as teams try to find the least common answers to trivia questions.
*BBC One’s final series of Total Wipeout, the adaptation of ABC’s obstacle course game Wipeout, begins on August 18th. Contestants try to make their way through various obstacle courses to win a £10,000 prize.
*As we previously discussed ITV’s Red or Black? comes back for a second series on Saturday, August 18th, at 7:15PM UK (2:15PM ET). Viewers can expect to see several changes, including a new end game where contestants can win a rolling jackpot starting at £500,000 and growing by that much each time it’s not won. *We broke the news about The Celebrity Chase‘s second series back on June but the ITV has finally confirmed. The new series of The Celebrity Chase will debut Sunday, August 19th, at 7:00PM UK (2:00PM ET). The set has been given some touchups for the new batch of episodes. Contestants try to outrun one of the four Chasers in a trivia battle to win tens of thousands of pounds.
*The Cube is back. After Mo Farah became the first person to beat The Cube and take its £250,000 ITV’s game is back for a new series of episodes also starting Sunday, August 19th.
*ITV’s non-stop game show marathon continues on Monday, August 20th. Their new daytime quiz show Don’t Blow the Inheritance debuts at 5:00PM UK (12:00PM ET). The game sees parent and child teams play to win thousands of pounds. In the final round the child in the team must answer five questions in not lose the inheritance fund. Read more about it here.
*Finally, the smartest game show in the world is coming back. As we previously announced BBC Four’s Only Connect will return on August 27th. Two teams put their lateral thinking skills to the test in this sixth tournament.






What the heck did they do to Red or Black?
The game looks so cheap now. The announcer with the deep voice explaining each of the games is now gone, the awesome theme music is gone, and they just start off with 8 people right away, instead of last season when they showed the whole process of narrowing down hundreds of contestants to the 8 in-studio ones.
Sheesh. I knew they were making it cheaper than before, but this is ridiculous.
Today’s Cube is a rerun according to the Radio Times website (one of the Olympics/British athlete specials), and then a one-off Millionaire special is on next week. After that, who knows?
