“Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: The People Play” Night One Recap
If you need a case why Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? works best with regular, every day contestants, just look back to last night’s live episode as a good example. ITV returned to its roots and let non-celebrities take a shot at the Hot Seat with Live Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: The People Play last night. The series continues tonight (July 10th) and Wednesday (July 11th) at 9:00PM UK (4:00PM ET) on ITV1. The Chris Tarrant-hosted game won its time slot with 3.9 million viewers and thousands more on the new play-along game. Click here to visit the site and get ready for tonight’s chance to see how you’d do in the Hot Seat. Contestants like Dawn Harkins, though, made it a memorable night.
Dawn Harkins, 61, came on the show to just win £10,000 initially. Dawn had her first child when she was 16 and had to put him up for adoption. After marrying and having two children, Dawn’s daughter found her adopted son now living in Australia. Her son lost his house due to the Brisbane floods and couldn’t afford to come to the UK to meet. The £10,000 she wanted to win was going to be used to send her and her family to Australia to meet her son and his wife and children. Dawn did far better than that, though. She won £50,000 which is guaranteed no matter what.
Dawn returns tonight at 9:00PM UK on ITV1 with just five questions between her and £1,000,000. She goes for £75,000 with nothing to lose at the top of the show, and she still has the 50:50 and Switch the Question lifelines. See how far she can go. Other contestants for the evening include Tahir Ali from Rosyth in Scotland and Caroline Polledri from Essex. Tahir won £20,000 at the top of the show and Caroline followed by walking away with £10,000.
