Okay, Los Angeles-area game show fans. This is some news you’ve probably been waiting for. Information on taping for GSN’s September revival of The Pyramid has just been released and we want to help you get a chance to check it out. The first taping day for the show is this Saturday, July 21st and tickets to the show, the remaining 39 episodes of the order which will be taped in the span of two weeks, are currently available through Tuesday, August 7th. If you’re interested in going to see one of the most highly anticipated revivals, go to the official ticket page, create a profile and sign up for a chance to get paid to watch The Pyramid! If you live in the area and want to see it or will be taking a trip during the available tape dates, get in early if you want to visit the set. I’m sure there will be a lot of competition for a chance to watch people head to the new Winner’s Circle.

This is great! I still hold out hope that I will be chosen as a contestant. It will be fun to watch.

  • Steven Ullman says:

How do I audition to be a contestant?

  • Jay Temple says:

The fact that they’re doing exactly 5 shows a day leaves me with at least a glimmer of hope that they’re REALLY doing it right: same two celebrities for a full calendar week, possibly even returning champions.

  • Chris Parsley says:

GSN, highly improbable on returning champs. However I can believe the same “stars” for the period, would only make sense.

  • BillCullen1 says:

Even if they’re doing five shows a day, they might still change celebs. I have high hopes for this one. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

  • Jay says:

Crossing fingers. I know I’ve stated doubts till now. But, this is the new version of my favorite game show. I really hope it works! The same celebrities for the entire week would be great! As for returning champions, I just don’t see it. I’d love it. But, given the new format and GSN’s budget, I just don’t see it. But, I can’t wait for the sneak peek.

What I don’t know/recall is what is the highest # of shows GSN has taped for a season for any game show? In other words, if it does well (and I really hope so), would they film another 40 later in the year/early next year, for example?

The other question is how many weeks a year did DIck Clark tape for when he did the Pyramid? Did daytime have more shows taped than night? I think I read how he did 5 shows a day?? Can anyone answer any of these questions? Thanks.

    • Jay Temple says:

The daytime version didn’t do reruns until its final year. They stopped running new episdoes in the summer of 1987 because of all the pre-emptions for the Iran/Contra hearings, and they reran the Christmas 1986 week in December, when they knew the show was going to be canceled. The $100K had 20-some weeks per season.

During the time of the Dick Clark Pyramid, 5 shows were taped in a day. I know that as I sat in on THREE days worth of taping when Michael J. Fox was on. And he won twice while we were sitting in the audience. I do not think that they recorded 5 shows a day as that would be just too much to handle.

I hope this new Pyramid does well…so far I have seen 30 episodes which is equal to 6 weeks worth of shows. So apparently there are only TWO more weeks left if they taped only 40 shows. I hope that the show is so popular that they start taping many more shows as I would like to get on as well, as back then in the 1980′s I auditioned to get on but never did. I see that they only accept 20 or 30 somethings to be contestants. I wonder if they would accept contestants who are 50 something… I would like to know also who to contact for contestant tryouts—any number to call or e-mail to write too?

I really wish they had returning contestants as that would make the show even more exciting!!!

I just wish there were more pics of the set. Just to tie me over till September.

Chad: Of course I wish I had seen this blog a month or so ago…..but can you help me find out how you can be considered (try out) to be a contestant on ‘The Pyramid.’ I’ve been practicing since 1984! I am so happy this latest version was produced so perfectly. A real tribute to the $25,000 Pyramid–no laptops!
Any information would be great….never had as much difficulty finding info on web than looking for this answer. Thanks, Lynda

    • Thomas says:

Yes this latest version is produced so well. But if the highest amount a contestant would win is $50,000, then that would mean that the $3,000 the contestant won for 6 perfect rounds would disappear. But that contestant should actually win $53,000!!!!!

Also since we have now seen 30 episodes, the jury is out; the celebrity players need to be coached more on how to play, especially giving out lists in the winners circle. They can use ADJECTIVES as well. For example, for the category THINGS YOU FIX, saying ‘a chair’ doesn’t work. BUT saying ‘a broken chair’ does. The host should help them on that right after the 60 seconds ends, but there is no time for that as they almost always quickly run to commercials.

Also in the main game, describe the most easiest way for a word. An example would be; SPAIN—why stutter and stammer trying to describe this country? Just simply say; ‘The capital of this country is Madrid; and/or The country of Portugal is adjacent to it. Much easier to answer then—MADRID. In other words, go for the obvious, despite the is read to you by the host. GO FOR THE OBVIOUS IN your descriptions of the words and phrases given to you.
