“The Price is Right” Schedules 40th Anniversary Special Taping
If you’ve watched The Price is Right at all this season you’ve probably noticed that it’s the 40th anniversary of the long running price guessing game. We previously announced that the Drew Carey hosted show was hunting down contestants who have appeared on the show in the past to share their story for a celebration. Price has announced it will tape its special 40th anniversary celebration on August 20th at 8:30AM. They are still hunting down any former contestant who has a story about a huge win, a heartbreaking loss, or just a general great moment. Is this you? Call the hotline 855-TELL-PIR or visit the show’s website to tell them. Be sure to check out Price‘s audience page for information on how to be there for this big show. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it?

It’d be nice if they made it into a primetime Million Dollar Spectacular special for this. I don’t know how willing CBS and Fremantle are about doing this, though.
I love the retrospective episodes. I hope they center it more on that than on big money. My favorite TPIR moment was when a guy (I think his name was Bryan) played “Punch-A-Bunch”. He punched out $5,000 and told the audience “if you’re scared, buy a dog! I’m going for it!” The next whole contained…what else…$10,000 (which was still the top prize at the time)!
I have a feeling were going to play Golden Road on that episode.
They need to have Bob come back for this special
Barker’s already been on there once – instead the EP’s need to try to get Janice, Holly, and Kathleen back on there so they can give the audience a proper goodbye that was denied them when they were fired.
I agree, but will they want to come back? Even though Drew and friends are likely to treat them with more respect than they ever got from Bob, they probably won’t want to come back because of so many bad memories of when they worked under the Latter.
Sounds childish I know, but…
I think that with most of Barker’s people out of the picture, they probably wouldn’t have a problem if they were asked to come back. After all, they DID have some good years there before his ego got out of control in the mid to late 80′s!
I’ll remember Janice Pennington’s wildest putt that no one expected when the ball starts to curve to the right and goes in the hole. How did Janice ever learned that trick putt in golf?
I think Janice made the putt because there may have been a crease in the carpet on the putting green.
Have they heard from Vanna White?
Don’t get your hopes up on Barker coming back. Most everyone from his era are gone (Roger, Bart, etc.).
I wonder if there are going to be set changes and if Drew is going to wear a fancy suit for the special. that would be nice.
They might repaint the doors for that show like they did with the primetime specials.
and who knows? those changes will carry into the daytime show as well.
OH MY GOD!!! I am going to the 40th Anniversary Show! They called me this week and invited me back as a former contestant. I just about peed my pants! Really! I haven’t stopped smiling and have literally had a hard time sleeping since they called. I still can’t believe it. I am so excited I may have a heart attack waiting for August 20th to get here! 25 days, 44 minutes, 32 seconds……
I just can’t believe how blessed I am!
There simply has never, and probably will never, be a show as great asTHE PRICE IS RIGHT!
Way to go! I am glad to see you got a call. I bet you had a great story. I am just nervous that they will call other less great people because they need people to fill the audience. I bet this is not true?
Oh my goodness! Congrats!! I am invited back as well. You sound like such a great person. YAY_ Way to go. I just can’t believe this. We get to go back and see Drew and everybody!! I am glad to see a fun and gracious person like you was invited back.
Maybe I will see you there!! :) Do you have a taping of you on the show online??
Again, CONGRATS

Lu Lu, did you get on? We were left outside. Just curious. Blessings, Lin
If it tapes in August, are they still taking stories? Does this pretty much mean that anyone who submits a story gets an invite? I bet they do this because people have to pay their own way there and many can’t make the trip to the show, so they have to ask everybody to find people who can come?
Regardless, what an exciting show this will be. Did any of you submit a story and get called back?
If I barely submitted my story, do I still have a chance? And what about guests? Will I be able to take a friend or will the audience consist of former contestants only? What did they say when thety called you Lulu?
I have been following this site for some time now and I just wanted to say I love it. Just like Lulu, I two was called back and am invited back to the show!! I have never been more excited in my entire life. I feel such an honor to sit with all the other past contestants. This will be great because everyone there loves the show and will have great stories.
I never posted earlier because I wasn’t sure if I could tell anyone about how I was invited, but I am pretty sure I can.
Lizzie- I am pretty sure you still have a chance. When did you submit your story? Maybe you can submit a longer one?
A former contestant invited back to the show can bring only one person with them. This person does not have a chance of being called down.
I really hope you get a call. Everyone here is so great for posting about the show. I am so thrilled I can’t sleep well.
Thank you all for loving the show. Hope to hear more stories soon.

I emailed my story to TPIR a few weeks ago and I was so happy when they called me and ask if I wanted to come to the anniversary show.
I just arrived in Los Angeles a few kours ago and might need an ambien to get to sleep tonight. can’t wait for the show to start tomorrow.
I called my sister who lives in Arizona and ask her if she wanted to go to the show with me, and of course she said yes.
See you all on the show…Good luck
Michael, did you get on? We were left outside. Just curious. Blessings, Lin
I was in line too yesterday. I am 64 and watch Price is right with my 90 yr. old mother-in-law, Lois, everyday. I was on the show in 1973 which makes me one of the oldest, 38 yrs ago. When they announced about the 40th anniversary show I called. I spoke to them a total of 5 times, they called not me. I told them that I was bringing my 90 yr. old mother-in-law and made special arrangements to accommodate her wheelchair. That is all she has been talking about the last month or so since we were first called. We were both thrilled when we got our “invitation, that is what they called it,” and our letter. Sunday night Lois got sick and we called 911 and she was taken to the hospital. The dr. recommended she be admitted and she told him that no she wanted to go home because she was going to the price is right in the morning. She signed herself out and we got home about 11:00. We got up at 5am and made the trip to the studio. We parked where they told us, so far so good. I saw the line outside the gate and figured it was for the price is right. I “parked” Lois in the shade with a water bottle and spoke to the young man with bright colored pieces of paper in his hand. He said it was the line and to get in it. I told him about Lois and he said she would be fine there. It was so hot and I was having trouble standing in the sun, no shade at all, and I knew she could not sit in the sun. I waited for 2 1/2 hours. I kept asking, about anyone who looked like they knew anything, why the line wasn’t moving and if they could tell me about how long it would be until we got to go inside the gate to the shade. Each time telling them about my waiting mother-in-law. They just said to stay in line. Then I heard people talking about another show. I found one of the price is right people and asked if there was going to be another show and they said yes, 4pm. I told her that my mother-in-law would never make it. She said to just get in line. Then I heard from my fellow linemates saying the show was filled and we would not get in. I found Brigitta, told her who I was, and I had spoken to her several times and refreshed her memory about Lois. I told her about the hospital escape too. She said that we could wait for the second show and we could line up for it then. I asked if it was a 40th anniversary show and she said no. I went back to Lois and told her we weren’t going to get in. You should have seen her face. She was so sad, so was I. I loaded her back in the car and headed back home. We were in invited guests, just like you were. We were never told that they overbook shows and there was a chance we would not get to even go in. In my 5 conversations with the price is right, confirming we would be there, no one ever said anything about not getting in, each time I told them how excited we were to come and we would be there. This is a horrible way to treat guests. It is a horrible way to treat anyone. I called and left a message on the Evelyn’s, the producer, voice mail and my phone number. I didn’t hear today. I don’t know much about the computer and I’m not up to snuff on facebook but the word should get out. If this is standard operating procedure they should change it. At the very least let their “guests” know there was a real possibility we would be left standing outside and never get it. They were considerate enough to suggest we bring a wrap because the studio was cold but were not considerate enough to tell us we would be standing out in the sun for hours and that we might not even get in after standing in the line. Shame on The Price Is Right! I know there is about 100 people just like us, I saw them yesterday. Lin Anderson
Coming from Seattle arriving at airport checking in at the hotel blinging my special Price is Right.. t-shirt driving the rental car and 2 hour commute ride as if I were a California resident!!!….with great anticipation the taping day was finally here, August 20th 2021…arriving at 7:30ammy stomach in knots and butterflies I joined my fellow former contestants in the line…What a great celebration this was to be even if I was’nt going to make it to contestants row, it was going to be fun what a celebration it was going to be….SO I THOUGHT!!!!!!!!!I was the biggest disapointment ever… not only for myself … but for some other contestants who gave it there all to be there. It was a total HOAX !!!!!we did’nt even get cake we just felt so used for their propoganda.. Yes my t-shirt made the front row of contestants telling the world look at the excitement we are having…. the winner was an ACTOR who had to re-enact the win 3 times it was’nt real!! !we were ignored by the stage people, hey they are our guests and lets share that cake they had for only them!! and all we got was a stupid t-shirt which most of had in the first place atleast they should have given one to our guests we were all dissed…Price is Right definately is not what it used to be…Mr. Barker was a dignified classy person he would not have allowed this to happen to us ….It all begins from the top …..this was evident it was not real. Drew you disapointed alot of us I will not watch you anymore…. after being a loyal watcher of the show for more than 30 years !!!!!goodbye…
