Nickelodeon Debuts “Splatalot” Tonight (July 17th) at 7:30PM
The massive success of Nickelodeon’s Figure It Out may have them looking at a few more cheap, popular game shows in the near future. For now, at least, Nick plans on pairing the Jeff Sutphen hosted panel game with a Canadian import. Nickelodeon will debut Splatalot tonight, July 17th, at 7:30PM ET/PT. Splatalot is essentially Wipeout for kids. Each episode sees twelve child contestants trying to cross all the obstacles and beat everyone else through three rounds to be declared the “King/Queen of Splatalot”. Unlike Wipeout, Splatalot holds a narrative theme of a Medieval castle. Matt Chin and Jason Agnew host.
The first series of Splatalot ran in 2011 on YTV in Canada. A second series has been announced. Interested in seeing what to expect with Splatalot? Check out a clip below. Does this interest you?
I do get slightly amused when we get adults in their 20s complain about stuff like this or Figure It Out because my first thought is, “Hey, this isn’t made for guys in their 20s. It’s made for children.” However, I think I speak for many of us mid-to-late 20 year olds saying, after this, how about we take a look at a revival of Legends of the Hidden Temple?

“how about we take a look at a revival of Legends of the Hidden Temple?”
From your lips to God’s ears.
Or how about “Finders Keepers?” Or “Nick Arcade?”
Or DOUBLE DARE. I’ve been waiting for them to do it right ever since the 2000 anomaly ceased production.
They should at least air those during the hour before Figure It Out so as to provide public interest in this show.
This could be good… I’m entertained by Wipeout from time to time, and I’m sure kids will be entertained by this rendition. Agnew should be an interesting host – I’m familiar with him from his radio work.
I understand a show like this for adults, but good parents would be out of their minds for letting their kids do this. They really could get seriously hurt doing this. Also… at 5:59, did I hear him say ass on Nickelodeon?
Double Dare. Then Hidden Temple… then Get the Picture. In that order. :)
Legends would be a really great game show to bring back! Especially since Nick seems to be getting back into the game show market
Splatalot is a joint production between YTV (Canada), CBBC (Children’s BBC in the UK) and ABC (Australia). So the contestants and the defenders are a mixture of Candian, British and Australian. All the versions are the same apart from the commentary. The UK version had Dick & Dom.
Although it’s not made by Endemol it’s a fun show but over too quickly.
I wouldn’t mind a Legends revival. But it has to have Olmec, and possibly a better host than Kirk Fogg. What I would like to see them revive is Think Fast. It would work with a decent host and smoother gameplay.
I would like to see either Jeff Probst or Joe Rogan host it. Joe’s show Fear Factor may not have revived interest in that show, but he’d be a good fit and he’d carry some elements of it over to this show. First, he’ll have a better time describing the stunts and to start the games he’ll say it like he did on Fear Factor, “Here we go! In 3… 2… 1… GO!”
Get the Picture? Oh yeah! It would be amazing what they could do with current technowlogy.
How about a sitcom called How I Married your Mother? LOL
I have YTV, so I checked out Splatalot a few times this past year, but I never really took an interest in it, because it was essentially a half-hour spin-off version of Wipeout. I find the Johns on Wipeout are funnier hosts, and the $50,000 prize more enticing. :D
I’m curious to know why this is debuting so much later than Figure it Out. This probably could have benefited from the high initial sampling of the first couple of weeks.
This reminds me more of Wipeout meets “Knights & Warriors” (the AG ripoff from 1992).
How about GUTS, you guys? Sheesh.
It’s already been done under the title “My family got guts” which only lasted one season.
That was a bastardization. I mean the three kids, five-round version from the 90s.
