News Flashes: “Oh Sit!” Debuts; HD “Family Feud”; TLC Orders Decorating Game

We’ve got some smaller stories we want to share with you before, hopefully, the Los Angeles Kings win the Stanley Cup today.

*The CW has set a debut date for their new game show Oh Sit!, formerly titled “Extreme Musical Chairs”.  The obstacle course-based game show will debut Wednesday, August 15th, at 8:00PM ET.  Jamie Kennedy hosts with Jessi Cruickshank.  The show sees 12 contestants race around a track as a live band plays music.  When the music stops the contestants must cross various stunts and challenges to get to the few chairs at the center.  The day’s champion wins the jackpot.  As I’ve said over and over, no, Oh Sit! is not a smart or high-aiming show.  It’s brainless summer fun.  It’s Wipeout with a live band.  If you like that show, there’s a shot you’ll like it.  Give it a shot.

*Family Feud is going HD this season.  It’s the last of the syndicated game shows to take the leap.  Want to see what changes to expect from the show.  A YouTube user uploaded some video from the set, shot from the actual TV cameras so you’re not going to be watching a cell phone movie.  You can check out the set updates, graphic changes, and more.  What do you think?  I think it looks really great.  Belated happy birthday to director Ken Fuchs.

*TLC is taking time away from showing reality shows about midgets to go back to their roots: home decorating shows.  This one has a game show twist.  The network has ordered the new competition decorating show Four Houses from ITV Studios America.  Each episode sees four couples preview, critique, and score each other’s homes for a $10,000 prize plus a place in “Better Homes and Gardens” magazine.  The series debuts Monday, July 2nd, at 10:00PM ET.

Don’t tell me the feud is still in Atlanta. The hometown family moments better be gone and Joey Fatone better be in the studio.

    • Leo says:

I went to a taping last week. Yes, it is still in Atlanta, and no, Joey is not in studio. But it appears the hometown moments will be gone this season – when they started filming the Fast Money segment, the time normally allocated for introducing the hometown moment was skipped.

      • Ben Mason says:

Did Steve Harvey do his usual intro of saying: “Welcome to Family Feud everybody. I’m Steve Harvey, etc.?”

      • james says:

So did they increased the amount of money that the families can receive? Or is it still the same $20,000 that they have been giving since the year 2000 or the same $5 a point that they have been giving out since 1976.

  • matt says:

This is yet another plea to use the full Combs theme set.

  • George S. says:

Way too many lights and what not moving at once. It looks really tacky. Next season they might be broadcasting from a spaceship.

    • J.C. says:

Not necessarily. If you remember, in the final season or two of the Karn era, when the show was opening, ending, or going in and out of commercial, the lights pretty much adopted a shifting rainbow pattern before finally settling down to their usual colors for the actual game. This set may do the same.

    • Scott says:

Then we could call it “Galaxy Feud” and mix Sci-Fi with a Game Show.

That would definitely be a hit in the ratings! :D

  • gene says:

How long have they been using the combs theme? create a new theme please feels like im watching a saturday night live parody.

  • Mike B. says:

I think this is the best the set has looked since the Combs era. Love the chase lights.

  • SquareEyes says:

Is there any video of “Oh Sit” available already?

  • Dave says:

I would like to see the new point scoring rules back to the original version that aired on ABC from 1982-1985, and on CBS from 1988, 1990-1992. ROUNDS 1-3 Single, ROUND 4 Double, ROUND 5 Triple (Sudden Death) .The race to 300 points will still be the same.
