ITV’s “The Celebrity Chase” Starts Second Series on August 19th

If you’re a fan of The Chase, you don’t have too much longer to wait until a new batch of celebrity episodes launch.  The second series of The Celebrity Chase, hosted by Bradley Walsh, debuts Sunday, August 19th, on ITV 1.  On each episode four celebrities take on one of the Chasers to win up to £100,000 for the charities of their choice.  The first series saw a record £100,000 win.  The only Chaser to catch the celebrity teams was Anne “The Governess” Hegerty, who won both of her games.  The new series introduces an updated set featuring a new game floor.  Rachel Riley, the co-host of Channel 4′s Countdown, has been announced to play in one of the upcoming games.

Did you miss the last series?  Here’s the record win from last November with our favorite Chaser, Mark “The Beast” Labbett. Mark was also a Chaser in the American pilot.   We’re big fans of The Chase around here.  All-around it’s the best quiz show on television in an extremely long time and we’re excited to see these new episodes.  How about you?  Special thanks to @AlisonGurney for letting us know about the new series.

Speaking of the set, I never got why the big columns moved from in front of the screen in the back to behind it after the first series. I mean, that latter does make more sense but it was somewhat more impressive looking the first way.

    • J.C. says:

Recall also that they did not keep track of the team’s/Chaser’s progress in the Final Chase on that screen in the first series, so it was probably for that reason.

Best Game Show on TV that’s not currently running in th US; Fox may not chance it after fellow UK import Take Me Out’s floundering (shameful that The Choice is doing better than TMO as I understand it)…

    • Scott says:

FOX chose to air Take Me Out and The Choice for a summer run, instead of other UK shows like The Cube and The Chase, all because they figured there was a “substantial gap in dating shows” on television. ABC has The Bachelorette, NBC has Love in the Wild, and now CBS is airing “3″, which is also going to fail in the ratings because CBS has explicitly stated it’s more of a drama/documentary series than an actual reality/competition/game series. Needless to say, I won’t be watching it.

And with GSN airing Baggage, I don’t see any gap in dating shows myself, so I don’t know where FOX got the idea that we needed more dating shows. Goes to show that from the moment they cancelled Greed 12 years ago, they still haven’t learned a thing with producing game shows that are exciting and fun to watch.

If you want to produce cheap, boring programs like Take Me Out and The Choice, then don’t expect anything other than low ratings. That’s not to say that expensive game shows always produce high ratings (cough*RedorBlack*cough), but at least create a game show with an exciting and fun GAME element to it.

FOX’s decisions when it comes to deciding which game show to produce into a series have been less than spectular as of late, to say the least.
