CBS Orders “Draw Something” Game Show Pilot

It’s been a busy few days for Sony Pictures and Michael Davies.  We had the announcement of Mike Richards hosting GSN’s The Pyramid which tapes today.  Now we have news that CBS has ordered a new pilot of theirs.  CBS has ordered the show Draw Something, based on the popular iOS game, from Sony Pictures, Embassy Row, and Ryan Seacrest Productions.  CBS won the pilot after a multiple network bidding war.  The game was rumored to become a game show at the end of March 2012.

There are no details yet beyond the fact that Ryan Seacrest is not expected to host.  Draw Something comes in a long line of drawing-based game shows, the most famous being NBC’s Win, Lose, or Draw.

CBS recently shot a pilot for another classic party-themed game show called Celebrity Name Game with host Craig Ferguson, but this was not picked up.

Alex, don’t forget about Pictionary hosted by Alan Thicke in 1997. It was a funny show and the episode in which Bill Mahar gets punched by Erik Estrada was one of the best moments of the series.

Here is the link for those of you who haven’t seen it before!!!!

Sounds interesting, this seems more of a better fit on Nickelodeon or HUB. I wouldn’t think a major network like CBS would pick this up.

  • Yellagram says:

Well, this will be nothing like the game that inspired it. It’ll have competition.

  • rich cerasale says:

maybe cbs is thinking about shorting let’s make a deal to an 1/2 hour and adding draw something if it gets picked up

    • Scott says:

Doubt it. CBS already renewed Let’s Make a Deal for a 4th Season and as far as I know, it’s staying as a 1-hour show, to precede TPIR in the morning.

Honestly, this is just another complete waste of time, being in a long line of Game Show Pilots that CBS has produced, yet not gone ahead with in series. Pyramid, The Cube, Secret Fortune, Celebrity Name Game… CBS likes getting attention when they pick up a pilot for a game show, but since MDP ended in 2009, they haven’t pushed a single one of their primetime game show pilots to an actual weekly TV series.

Even if Draw Something was a good game show (of which it sounds really boring to me), CBS is just most likely going to shoot a pilot, then throw it in the garbage can, if their previous 3-year track record is anything to go by. Don’t get your hopes up for any game show that CBS pilots.

The only thing that CBS is drawing with this is attention and straws. I give it a thumbs down.

No, I’m sorry, you’re out of time! I’m afraid the correct answer was “Skrillex”.

But you won’t be leaving empty handed, you’ll be taking home a copy of the Draw Something Home Game!
It’s all the fun of the TV show adaptation of the smartphone app based on a family board game,
now in a family board game! http://bit.ly/LlRsyy

  • The Banker's Nephew says:

It could work if it were more like the online game, Draw My Thing, the app is based off of. Maybe also a bit like a three player 1970′s Double Dare, One person draws, when another player buzzes in the other player’s view is blocked and booth made soundproof or something.

  • Bobby says:

Could be a prime time game show or a Saturday morning kiddie show? Or could CBS be seriously looking at ditching The Talk for one hour B&B and a 30-minute gamer to make it 2 soaps and 3 games?

    • DeVares says:

I doubt if it will be the latter seeing as A) Les Moonves would never cancel a show co-hosted by his wife, and B) even if that happens, CBS would likely give B&B an hour and give their time slot to affiliates just to expand their news to an hour. If anything, my money’s on Prime Time.

  • Matt says:

Don’t have CBS put a game show in the 12 noon time slot beacuse most cities or affiliates show their local noon news. If CBS does put another game show on network daytime, when will ABC or NBC will counter-attack with their own?

  • Scott Meckley says:

I don’t see NBC putting on a daytime gameshow. They are too in love with the Today show, Days Of Our Lives and talkshows. ABC might though. I do wish NBC would though bring a gameshow to compete with CBS. NBC should revive Concentration

  • Cherylann miller says:

I love playing my Draw Something Game everyday. I hope you do a game showI think it wouldbe popular and give people lot of laughs.mput me on the list if you need contestants.
