Report: Channel 4 Considers a Daytime Comeback for “The Bank Job”
The Channel 4 live quiz show The Bank Job may not be dead after all. After relatively lackluster average ratings for the two series, BroadcastNow is reporting that the George Lamb hosted quiz show could come back as a daytime program. Channel 4 is currently deciding whether the series deserves that shot. The Bank Job sees four contestants answer questions and take money from inside a bank’s safe deposit box. You need to be out of the vault with the most cash before the clock hits 0 to win. A series of format changes would be expected with a daytime version.
Each series seemed to be marred by production issues, whether that be botched video feeds, inconsistent ruling on the buzzers, unclear rules at first, technology breakdowns, and more. Most of this came from being live, and a daytime series would be taped in advance, so all the bumpy parts could be removed. The first series saw an average of 1.21 million viewers and the second saw 1.15.
A source to BroadcastNow said, “The show has been under pressure in the limelight of primetime. Deal Or No Deal is incredibly strong, but they need another strong show in daytime and it is healthy to keep trying other things.”
I honestly didn’t mind The Bank Job. I thought they did a good job and most issues were avoidable if they didn’t go live. There were a few minor game issues but nothing that wasn’t easily fixable. What do you think? Would you be watching a daytime version of The Bank Job.
