“The Chase” USA Pilot Now Casting

A bit ago BuzzerBlog exclusively announced that The Chase, ITV’s hit daytime quiz show, was making a jump to America for a Fox pilot.  The ITV Studios USA show is already into the casting phase for the pilot.  Anyone near Los Angeles who is a trivia buff and wants a free trip to London may want to take part.  I stress the free trip to London part.  You’ll also get $1,000.  Just be 21 or over, have a passport, and able to be in Europe between May 11th and May 16th.  Incidentally, this is the same time that the newest celebrity episodes of The Chase tape, so UK residents be on the lookout for audience information at LostInTV.  Click here if you want to be a part of the pilot.  The Chase is arguably the best quiz show around anywhere right now, and I’d love some of our trivia buff BuzzerBlog readers to help bring it to America.

I wonder if FOX is speeding up the casting process because they want to see if The Chase will work for a summer run. I can’t remember the last time a network announced a casting call for a pilot this quickly after Alex announced that they were going to produce a pilot.

  • Gatoontheradio says:

Just curious who they would cast as chasers if this show is a go in the US. I have a feeling the names of Ken, Brad and Ogi would be on top of that list. Any other ideas who they could use?

  • Andrew says:

Since the pilot is being shot in the UK, would they not use one of the British Chasers for now?

    • King Erroneous says:

Subject material would be limited as the British chasers, I would imagine, are not quite as well versed in their Americana knowledge and US contestant know even less of all things British.

  • Andrew L. Budny says:

Crap, I can’t travel to LA at the moment. I so want to audition. Now only if they can do phone interviews, that would be perfect.

  • MikeSant318 says:

Typical Craigslist announcement for a game show: “We’re looking for OUTGOING, ENERGETIC (sic on the capitals) with a love for all things trivia…” never mind of you knwo anything, or even How To Play The Game, so long as you look good…

  • Ed Toutant says:

I’ve watched a couple episodes of “The Chase” and I think I understand all of the rules except for one thing. How does The Chaser decide how much money to offer each contestant in their one-on-one round? Does The Chaser get to keep the money if he beats each player? Does he have fixed amount in the bank to distribute as he sees fit? What is The Chaser’s motivation and incentive, other than playing for pride? Is it like “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” where he gets to keep whatever isn’t won? Or is The Chaser just an employee of the production company who gets paid the same amount per episode no matter how it turns out? Is there a maximum or minimum he can offer. I know that it can be a negative amount, but is there an upper and a lower limit?

It seems like a fun game that mixes elements of Greed, Grand Slam and a few other shows.

    • David B says:

Ed, the offer values are decided by the producers not the Chasers.

It’s not publicly known what the Chaser’s incentives are. All the UK Chasers are sufficient quiz obsessives that they would be happy playing for pride only. I don’t know if there is any additional financial incentive for ‘chasing down’ large jackpot prizes – there may be, but if there is I would imagine it would be small, possibly 1% of the bank. There would be set appearance fee, win or lose.

      • Ed Toutant says:

Thanks, David. I’ve met one of the chasers (Paul Sinha), and considered asking him, but he’s probably not allowed to tell me.

  • aaron says:

apparently bradley is going to be hosting the uk pilot.

    • aaron says:

oops, i mean us pilot. sorry about the typo.

      • Ken in Hong Kong says:

I would welcome Bradley to be the host, but I agree with King Erroneous that the chasers and the question material would have to be American-leaning. That said, I would love to see Mark Labbett as a chaser, and I think he’d be as popular in the US as he is in the UK.

  • Momo says:

Chasers are paid a flat rate win or lose, they play for ego which in the case of all of them is all that is needed. There will be two chases filmed, one with a British Chaser and one with an American both of whom have been speculated on above.

    • Ken in Hong Kong says:

First, I have to wonder who Momo is, which would put him/her in a position to know. Second, I would think that of the four British chasers, Mark Labbett might be the most adept at handling questions of Americana content. Do we know for sure that Bradley Walsh will be the host? Please forgive me, I love Bradley, but will the American contestants be able to understand his accent against the clock?

  • Josh J says:

Any more updates on this? I auditioned for the pilot and got a callback…was told I would hear within 2 weeks. Guess I’m not going to London?

  • phil brannon says:

I WAS AT TV RECORDING . THE SHOW WORKED, BUT THE US CHASER WAS VERY DULL AND BORING . HE WAS A” JEOPARDY “WINNER. CONTESTANT MUFFY WAS GREAT .BRADLEY WAS SURPERB. PHIL BRANNON
