“Millionaire” Kicks Off American Pride Week with Firefighter Peter Flihan
Who Wants to be a Millionaire is bringing some of America’s biggest heroes onto the set to play a special “American Pride Week” of shows starting Monday, April 30th. As a throwback to the show’s former “Walk In and Win” weeks, each contestant playing will be pulled from the studio audience made up of firefighters, U.S. military, and teachers. That unsuspecting person will be taken from their seat to the million dollar table, hoping to take down the top prize. Playing first this week will be Peter Flihan, a volunteer firefighter with the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department.
Peter told host Meredith Vieira that winning Millionaire‘s money will mean a lot to him, saying, “My wife’s car needs some repairs. She’s a nurse and she works nights so we’re holding down a couple of jobs amongst us. Can I tell you what the surprise is? It means we get to go to Disney World! So honey, if you’re seeing this ….. make the reservations!” Here’s one spoiler-free clip of Peter getting set to play. The second video, below a quote from Meredith, has some spoilers in it so be careful, but it’s a great clip.

Meredith Vieira said about the week, ““American Pride Week” ended up being some of my favorite shows of the entire season. Not only were we able to give away ‘Millionaire’ money to some very deserving people, but we were honored to have given these distinguished Americans some well-deserved recognition and to thank them for their contributions to this country,” she added.

Thanks for posting this, Alex. I hope that some of my comments in this episode convey the deep satisfaction that are found in serving your community. If it causes even one person to join their volunteer department, then I will consider my appearance a true success.
Thanks for the comments and your service in the fire department, Peter. Looking forward to watching how you do on the show this afternoon.
