“Family Feud” and a Little Flashlight

We haven’t posted a funny moment from Family Feud in a while, and I think we’re due.  We’re into the Fast Money round, where things tend to get a little more serious as the families play for $20,000…a good deal of money to anyone.  A very simple, innocent question is asked: we asked 100 men, name a part of your body a doctor might look in with a little flashlight.  Basically everyone knows what the answers are, like your ears or nose or places like that.  Our contestant April, got flustered under the pressure of the clock and uttered something pretty different and pretty funny.  What makes it more hysterical is what her partner does to the same question.  Steve’s reaction is priceless, and his pitch-perfect handling of the situation is why we like him so much.

Take a look.  Pretty funny, huh? This is probably one of Steve’s best moments in the two years of him hosting Feud. Very reminiscent of Richard Dawson’s “September” episode.

I haven’t really been a fan of Harvey’s Feud because too many of the “funny” moments come from suggestive questions that basically force those answers. That being said… This was a pretty funny moment that didn’t have those fingerprints on it.

    • Michael says:

Agreed. When you think of it, you’re almost thinking they’d go the other side!!

That answer actually makes a degree of sense, and that’s why 16 people and both players said it!

I too don’t like Harvey, the wildness and raunchy questions remind me of a bastard child of Combs and Karn…and on the whole it reminds me of Combs feud…which has NOT aged well. The funny moments are funny, but really I don’t get why he’s so popular…of the New feud, I still back O Hurley.

  • Scott says:

I guess I’m the only person here who likes Steve Harvey. I find him funny. Much funnier than Karn and O’Hurley ever were. Karn was just your average typical host, and O’Hurley was the serious gentleman-type of host. But neither of them were really funny.

I remember when I saw that amateur video a few years ago, when this guy interviewed Steve, and he said he wanted to take Feud back to the days of Richard Dawson; not with the kissing, but with the funny answers. And that’s exactly when he has done. Sure, the questions have become a bit more R-rated, but so has everything else on television these days. And Steve’s reaction to answers given to those types of questions is priceless.

Hope he stays with the show for many more years to come. :)

Those who dislike Harvey are in the minority. Most people, myself included, think he’s hilarious! And he is! The questions are more R-rated, but they have been since Louie started this version of the “Feud” in ’99. Watching the countless O’Hurley reruns on GSN, there are, literally, the same amount of “lead into raunchy” questions then. They families just gave safe answers. They do the same on Harvey’s feud sometimes too, but the funny moments you see online are the times they don’t.

Harvey’s done wonders with “Feud” and those who don’t think so…Idk what to say. It’s as close to the Dawson days as we’ll ever get. 100%

I will admit that I may be in the minority who thinks the Combs “Feud” is the 2nd best. Combs, like Harvey, really knew how to be funny while letting contestants be funny. “Feud” is the kinda show that 50-50 is the name of the game, meaning the host needs to be 50% the star and the families need to be the other 50%. That’s why Harvey’s so popular. The family provides the funny moment (50%) and he adds his own to it (50%). That’s also why the Karn version is less exciting than most other hosts because he didn’t deliver his 50% (more like 15%). I believe Combs DID provide his 50%. His version has aged very well, in my opinion.

    Ok..end of rant. haha.

My issue with Harvey’s hosting is less the guy himself. I’ve been to two recordings and thought he was absolutely brilliant.

My main problem is that i feel like they edit out all the actual cleverness and jokes out and leave in him staring at people and repeating what they said in an annoyed tone. If they’d make the editing a bit better I’d consider him one of the top Feud hosts ever.

  • Chris says:

I’m not a big fan of the dirty questions, but I have to admit Steve has done a great job at hosting. Is he the best since Dawson, I’m not sure (Combs and O’Hurley both did fantastic jobs.). However, it is great to see the Feud back in the spotlight again and I hope it can keep it up.

  • Daniel B. says:

…So they just cut it off at the end. No reaction from Steve after he gets back, nothing? I don’t buy it.

(Count me in with those like George S. who don’t like the show forcing the kinds of dirty questions and answers. This clip didn’t count, though.)

  • Alohadave says:

I agree with the minority here that there is nothing sincere about Steve or his humor. “Phony Baloney” is the only phrase I can think of to describe his on-air persona. I never for one second believe that he is sincerely laughing at anything. All I see is a bad actor playing the part of a game show host pretending to be amused at the contestants “gaffes”. I just don’t buy it at all. You can’t fake sincerity. At least when Drew laughs on Price it’s for real. He doesn’t fake-laugh during awkward moments just to placate the contestants. That’s pretty much all Steve does on Feud.

The very tired gimmick of asking “forced dirty questions” only adds to the already contrived tone of the show in general.

    • The Banker's Nephew says:

I completely agree that he comes off terribly on TV, but I’d like to say in Steve’s defense that he seemed perfectly genuine at the recordings I’ve been to.

I’d blame what I see as shoddy editing on making him look bad, personally.

GET JOEY FATONE IN THE STUDIO!

  • Jason says:

I’m really glad everybody hates Steve Harvey, because guess what? I DO, TOO! His third season has already been taped, and there’s nothing I can do about it, but all who would do anything to make sure a new host is used for the 2013-14 season, say “I.”

  • Jason says:

…other than me; I just did.
