Australian “The Price is Right” Set to Return to Channel 7 in April

The rumors are true…the Australian version of The Price is Right is coming back.  Larry Emdur, who hosted a version of the show from 1993 to 2005, is set to return to the iconic television series.  Production will begin this week with an episode dedicated to original host Ian Turpie who lost a battle with cancer in early March 2012.  The show is looking to debut sometime next month, April, and it’s assumed it will air at 5:00PM.  This will make it precede currently-struggling Deal or No Deal, which has been seeing large drop-offs in viewership over the past few years.

Rumors of Australian Price is Right‘s revival first came in late February 2012 following an appearance on the American version of the show on CBS.  Larry Emdur said, in a statement, “There’s a whole generation of people who grew up watching Turps on The Price Is Right and we’ll now have a new generation seeing the show for the first time. We can’t wait to start. When I was asked if I wanted to be involved in this new version, I think I was as excited as 20 showcase winners an an inflatable spa bath.”

I’m quite excited that they’re using the current French-based logo there.

I’m curious as to how long it will be before it just takes over the 5:30 slot, if DOND’s ratings drop is as reported.

  • David says:

I wonder though; if they’re using the new French logo, are they going to change their showcase endgame to the new French one? (Which was basically Super Clock Game)…I like the way they’ve done it in the past down there- the player has to order the prizes in the showcase from least to most expensive- It’s probably the best single-player showcase format in all the TPIR versions..

Sounds better than the Anticlimatic Range Finder Version of the Showcases seen in the 94 Primetime version.

      • David Hammond says:

Not really, BOTH the Rangefinder and the Easy As 1-2-3 were created strictly for cost saving measures. Showcases in the 1994 nighttime version could top well over $50,000 US dollars. In Australia, the showcases could top well over $150,000 Australia Dollars, sometimes more.
