Rumor Control: ABC’s “You Deserve It!” Debuts November in Post-”Dancing With the Stars” Slot
It’s rare that we get some actual news on the weekends but we’ve got something interesting. ABC has been doing heavy casting for their new quiz show You Deserve It!, hosted by The Bachelor‘s Chris Harrison. The quiz show lets contestants play for someone else which leads to a surprise reveal of the cash. The game wasn’t anything that new or special but it’s very obvious that the point is the emotional ending which goes well with ABC’s female driven base. We may have a debut date.
In a story in the Houston Chronicle casting director Paul Gordon let it slip that the show will debut in November. Gordon says the series will debut after Thanksgiving after the series finale of Dancing With the Stars which is an incredibly good slot. Again, to be honest, the show does nothing for me because I’d rather see a great game rather than the emotional ending. But I’m clearly not in the target demographic. I can see it working well on ABC, especially with its lead in.
12Yard has a similar game show debuting soon in England called Holding Out For a Hero.

It seems ABC is targeting the drama-based audience over the game-show-based audience with this one. If they’re tapping Chris Harrison to host it, they’re definitely trying to retain the same audience that watches the Bachelor-based shows. Don’t know if it’ll be my cup of tea or not.
