Morning Buzz for May 17, 2011

Good morning, everyone.  Here’s this mornings stories.

*ABC announced their Fall 2011 schedule.  Who here expected Shark Tank to last three seasons?  Not I, a fan of the show.  I’m very happy to announce the critically acclaimed reality show has been picked up for a third season.  The show sees entrepreneurs come before a panel of five Sharks, wealthy entrepreneurs themselves, to ask for cash to fund their ambitions and dreams.  This season added celebrity Sharks such as Jeff Foxworthy and Mark Cuban, who has been a great addition.  Very glad to see such a unique and interesting reality show return.

*This is pretty good.  As we’ve been talking about, last Friday saw a record breaking moment on Deal or No Deal which culminated in contestant Suzanne winning the £250,000 jackpot.  As with shows in America, Suzanne had to keep it a secret from her family.  Want to see how they reacted?  Take a look at the clip below.  It’s great to see stuff like this.

You need to install or upgrade Flash Player to view this content, install or upgrade by clicking here.

*You can’t make this stuff up.  GSN is considering doing a bible quiz show.  This is somewhere between idiotic and very poor decision making.  Mike Huckabee was first asked to host but he declined.  He may be doing a new version of Hee-Haw instead.  I don’t even really know what to say about this.  Regardless of my feelings on the matter, it’s very funny that they’ll be doing about an hour and a half of penis jokes during their relationship block, and then they’ll cut to questions about jesus.  Amazing, guys.

*Speaking of penis jokes, Baggage returns for a new season on Monday, June 6th, at 7:30PM ET on GSN.  It will precede the season debut of Lingo.

*Live close to Scotland?  BBC’s popular quiz show Secret Fortune is taping new episodes.  Click here to get some tickets.  It’s a fun show to watch, and seeing game shows in person is very fun.  If you’re close definitely give it a shot.

*Here’s what’s on for game show fans tonight:

  • ABC: Dancing With the Stars at 8:00PM ET
  • NBC: The Biggest Loser at 8:00PM ET; The Voice at 10:00PM ET
  • GSN: Catch 21 at 5:00PM ET (new); The Newlywed Game at 6:30PM ET (new); Love Triangle at 7:00PM ET (new); Improv-A-Ganza at 8:00PM ET (new)

    Debatable.

So Baggage remains at 7:30? It wasn’t doing so well there. But maybe if they put something else in place of Love Triangle at 7 PM, it will do better.

The Bible game show doesn’t sound like it will appeal to me at all. Maybe they don’t like the fact that they’re getting a predominantly liberal audience (at least in Milwaukee)? And who will they get as host now that Huckabee is out… Glenn Beck? Or that guy predicting the end of the world?

I have nothing against a bible show on a religious network but GSN at least right now, is not the place for it. my thinking is they’re trying to add more variety but I’m sorry the people who would be interested in a bible quiz are not likely going to tune into GSN with love triangle and baggage and to a certain degree Improv-a-ganza airing all around it. and bible quizes have never been big ratings grabbers that’s what GSN needs to focus on getting ratings.

That was an awesome clip. I am so happy for Suzanne and her boyfriend and her family. The wedding will no doubt be super.

  • PAX TV did air a pilot for a bible game show called Genesis back in 2000. Unfortunately, it wasn’t too successful. The full episode is on YouTube, check it out.

BAGGAGE IS BACK! I am so happy and I hope there are some good but small changes to the show. Still, Baggage still has to pay there studio audiences to watch.

    Bible show? No comment.

  • Wayne says:

I wonder if this is the Bible show Michael Davies had floating around a few years ago. I thought Pat Kiernan was tied to that one.

  • Scott says:

Here we go again. Another bonehead decision by GSN executives. A Bible Quiz Show? For crying out loud, this isn’t Vision TV or some other religious television network!

I think I see a pattern here. Whoever’s running GSN seems to like reviving old game shows and ruining them completely, or creating brand new shows that are lousy from the very beginning.

At this rate, if any one of us here ever becomes a billionaire, we should start up our own game show television network and air the game shows we actually want to see!

Come on, GSN is trying a Bible themed game show starring Mike Huckabee? Unacceptable. I find it so stupid and ridiculous that today’s game shows are only hiring has-beens for hosts and not showing any interest in up-and-comings. I also wish GSN could shop for UK imports like the Chase, Pointless, and let’s not forget the Cube.

  • James E. Parten says:

Now, wait a minute! Before we all laugh ourselves into a stupor, let’s think this thing through!

A Bible quiz for GSN? Why not. This might give them something original to run on Sunday mornings.

And this might give them a property they can turn around and syndicate to Christian-themed stations and services, such as Trinity.

If GSN runs this on Sunday mornings, then it won’t necessarily be rubbing shoulders with the kind of shows that fundamentalist Christians would find unsalubrious.

Some folks might even see this as penance for GSN’s tendency to devote weekend prime time to poker programs!

Didn’t Art James do a Bible game show about 20 years ago? It was a one off which should be better classified as a pilot but it was done.

Yeah I can’t believe it and I don’t have a major problem with it I know alot of people who would. Not 100% suprised, GSN hasn’t been shy to pull no punches politically (Remember the game show debate special, or the All Gay IGAS?) I will say they lean left enough that I am mildly surprised, this is the same GSN that allowed George Tekei’s gay marriage to be a part of the Newleywed Game just a year ago.

I will say that Bible questions aren’t a bad thing…they always get me in Jeopardy and if done right, I wouldn’t mind it as a trivia challenge. I just doubt it will be done right and if they aren’t careful, it will piss off a LOT of loyal viewers.

Huckabee would be the wrong way to go…Too political…How about someone who is actually a minister but is well respected on left and right…like Reverend Run?

Ok it was genesis newer than i thought and the guy out of Mothballs they brought out was Jim McKrell…and off the record…that show music and set wise was SO in a time warp no WONDER I thought it was late 80s early 90s LOL
