Morning Buzz for May 16, 2011

I hope everyone is attempting to have a good drive to the office this Monday morning.  Here are some morning updates to start your week off.

*ABC announced some debut dates for their numerous summer game shows.  Wipeout will return from its very brief hiatus for a new series of episodes on June 21st for a sneak preview.  The actual season debut will be June 23rd.  Each episode is at 8:00PM ET.  The sneak preview episode will lead into Wipeout‘s companion show, 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, beginning June 21st at 9:00PM ET.  The quiz show sees contestants trying to avoid wrong answers which remove them from the game in extremely physical ways.

ABC has then moved the season debut of its new Mark Burnett globe trotting game Expedition Impossible to Thursday, June 23rd, at 9:00PM ET, following Wipeout.  The show features 13 teams of three racing across the globe in an attempt to win $150,000 and a new Ford Explorer.  Finally, ABC has pushed the debut of its final game show, Take the Money and Run, to Tuesday, August 2nd, at 9:00PM ET.  Take the Money and Run challenges teams to outrun real life law enforcement to win up to $100,000.

*Los Angeles readers: here’s another chance to earn some easy cash for watching a game show.  GSN’s Baggage is taping today at 8:00AM ET and continues taping for a while.  They’re giving you $8 an hour, for a six to eight hour tape session, to sit there and laugh and people saying horrible things about themselves.  Not a bad way to earn about $50.  Click here if that sounds good to you.

*Got a pretty interesting email last night.  I get master logos sent to me on occasion to use for posts.  One of them was the master logo for Million Dollar Mind Game, the ABC game show which won’t be airing.  Very nice of the person to send it.  The other logo I was sent was for The $500,000 Pyramid, which you can see at the top or below.  I’ve got some sources telling me that it’s possibly a logo from the newest CBS pilot in 2010 when they were testing out different dollar amounts.  Pretty cool logo.

*Remember the recording breaking Deal or No Deal game we showed you a few days ago?  The show caught up with the big winner and talked to her for a bit.  Check it out here.

*It was previously announced that the new season of Family Feud will tape in Atlanta, Georgia, the home base of host Steve Harvey.  The show will tape its 150 episode season at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center starting this July.

*Here’s today’s schedule:

  • ABC: Dancing With the Stars at 8:00PM ET
  • GSN: Catch 21 at 5:00PM ET (new); The Newlywed Game at 6:30PM ET (new); Love Triangle at 7:00PM ET (new); Improv-A-Ganza at 8:00PM ET (new)

Such a shame that “Million Dollar Mind Game” won’t make it to air…

  • I love the Pyramid logo!! I hope CBS picks up this show soon……..

  • ????? says:

As of May 16th, GSN hasn’t annnounced a premiere date for Lingo except coming in June. Surprised they haven’t announced the actual premiere date yet.

  • Jay says:

Will The $500,000 Pyramid be coming to air?

  • David says:

I suspect the actual audience will be a lot less because of how they’ll set the stage up, but the Civic Center in Atlanta holds 4,600 people..

I could see that being OK for a few weeks, but an entire season?

  • Ryan Tadych says:

Is it official that Million Dollar Mind Game will NEVER air? I find it hard to believe that they would have taped six episodes and not eventually find a spot for it to air. Any news on Million Dollar Money Drop?

    • Ryan says:

Hard to believe, but not completely unheard of.

It’s been four years since the CBS game show “Do You Trust Me?” taped its episodes. They have yet to air anywhere.

  • shelly says:

The video doesn’t work. It says “embedding disabled by owner”.

  • Nikolai says:

I hope that “The $500,000 Pyramid” makes it to air. I do remember hearing about the taping of a pilot for “The $1,000,000 Pyramid” at one time, but that was never sold. Also, I thought I had heard that CBS was renewing their morning show “The Talk”, so I’m not sure what to think. Is ABC going to pick up “Pyramid”? All this seems so confusing.

    • Anderson DelValle says:

Unless ABC as another hour that it’s canceling, it won’t be the place for Pyramid. It has already picked up a nutrition show and a lifestyle show (featuring Tim Gunn) to replace All My Children and One Life to live.

      • MikeSant318 says:

Rumors are that ABC announced they’ll be ending General Hospital come the fall of 2012, but don’t get your hopes up – the hour has been reserved for a talker by the newly-acquired Katie Couric…

    • Brandon W. says:

I believe that two “$1,000,000 Pyramid” pilots were taped for CBS in 2009, but were passed on in favor of “Let’s Make a Deal”. I’m going to assume the “$500,000 Pyramid” was the three Andy Richter pilots from 2010, that were passed on in favor of “The Talk”.

  • GSN fan says:

Once again, just like I said with The Newlywed Game. I can’t believe GSN pays people to sit in there audience. I thought Baggage was such a hit show that people would want to see it (at least for free). Although you never see cash prizes on the show since it is only a dating show. This season alone (Season 2, which premiered back in August 2010, they have spent $260,000 on contestants showing up for showing Baggage. (That number is $500 per person, 130 episodes with 4 contestants each) Plus, you have the dates that GSN sends the winning couple on, studio audience, and everything back from Season 1.

    Enough said.

  • ????? says:

They cut back on the number of episodes from 165 to 150 for the upcoming Feud season. Budget reasons I guess. I wonder if TPIR, LMAD, or Millionaire have considered cutting the number of episodes taped in a season for budget reasons(can’t imagine WOF or J! doing fewer episodes a season). Apparently Fifth Grader did 130 episodes for syndie season two, and 160 for the first season. Millionaire I think did 195 episodes in its first couple of syndie seasons, compared to 175 in later seasons.

  • ????? says:

I think the first three seasons of syndie Millionaire were 195 apiece, followed by 175 for the seasons since then. Episode 40 of season nine(the current season) was the 1500th episode.

  • Scott says:

You know, they should really set a standard for the number of episodes in a season…

It’s so confusing at times. Million Dollar Password had 6 episodes per season, Stargate Universe had 20 episodes per season, and Family Feud is having 150 episodes per season. Holy cow. That’s a long season if you ask me…

    • Fued, like J! and WoF, is a five days a week enterprise, so 150m eps=30 weeks

      • MountainHawk says:

Jeopardy! has only 6 weeks of reruns each year, so in a 52-week year at 5 episodes per week, there are 46*5 = 230 episodes per year, with an occasional 235 in some years due to a quirk in the calendar.
