Reminder: “1 VS 100″ Debuts Today, November 15th, at 7:00PM ET on GSN
If you didn’t remember, GSN is debuting the third season (their first season before taking the show from NBC) of 1 VS 100 tonight at 7:00PM ET. It will air every weekday at 7:00PM ET with a replay at 10:00PM ET. The quiz show, hosted by Carrie Ann Inaba, sees one contestant face off against a Mob of 100 people to see who knows more. If the One can outlast the Mob, that person wins $50,000. If the One misses a question, the remaining members of the Mob will split the money. It was a great show on NBC and judging from the videos and pictures I’ve seen GSN has done a good job recreating the NBC atmosphere and game as well as they could with their limits. Be sure to let us know what you think of it.

I was really impressed with the virtual mob. They made it seem live. The question writing was also good.
Carrie Ann needs some work, but any new host does. Still miss the season one money system.
The first contestant was really annoying. Casting at GSN is usually pretty crap.
Even with your many reminders, I forgot to watch the premiere.
I also really enjoyed the virtual mob. The atmosphere was much like the NBC version which was nice. I’m really glad that the music on the show is the same – makes it so nice to watch in my opinion.
Carrie Ann isn’t doing too bad but does need some work as Kevin said. She reminds me of how Howie Mandel was on the first week of Deal or No Deal back in December 2005. I’m sure in the coming weeks/months she’ll get better.
All in all, I’m impressed by what GSN did for the new show and can’t wait for more of it.
Just watched the premiere — I think it would be more exciting to just broadcast someone playing the DVD home game. Carrie Ann is as bad as I feared she’d be. Part of the appeal of the original show was the crazy grandeur of the live studio set packed with 100 people. 100 people via webcam just doesn’t do it for me — they might as well be CGI characters. And $50,000 is just too small a prize for all that work.
I wasn’t really a fan of the virtual mob. It just felt… I dunno, off. And that yellow color scheme looks fine, but is a bit jarring after the purple of the NBC version
Carrie Ann… I don’t think you could be more robotic if you put a robot up there, frankly. I know she has much more personality than that and I hope she actually shows some of it once she gets used to hosting.
And I completely agree, Season One’s bounty system needs to come back.
What I hate is the paytable seems EXTREMELY EXTREMELY CHEAP… 70 down and only 5k? Cmon I know it’s GSN, but please…. Also, no advance look at the the next question when your out of helps?
This only kicks in at a certain money level now I believe, like the top 3 levels or something.
Not a bad first show. I HATED the contestant though… Her voice and her personality were major turn offs. It was like she was acting. I hope tomorrow’s contestant is better.
Carrie Ann is the worst host I’ve seen since Ricki Lake did Game Show Marathon.
The contestant was annoying, and the game’s money ladder felt cheap, even by GSN standards. But the virtual mob ended up working out much better than I thought it would, and it was nice that they kept the old music. Though not a great host now, I think Carrie Ann could do really well if given some time. I’ll keep watching.
That was such an annoying contestant. I found it hard to root for her just because she over acted on everything. Other than that I am fairly glad that 1 vs 100 is back and hope it leads to 1 vs 100 live coming back on xbox.
I hope so too. If this works out well which I hope it does, maybe will see it’s return to Xbox live or maybe a Fecebook version like they did with Wheel of Fortune recently!!!!!!
As for my overall thoughts, I loved the premiere. Even though the contestant was slightly annoying, she played a great game. But overall, I have really high hopes for this show!!!!!
Actually, I men’t Facebook!!!!! Sorry for the mis-spelling!!!!!
The show captures the feel of the NBC version. Carrie Ann did interact with a few of the virtual mob members. They had a live audience and it seemed to move. A contestant named Max posted on the GSN boards that he will be the ONE on Wed. and Thurs. 11/17 and 11/18. So the show will occasionally straddle. Carrie Ann will probably get better as she does more shows. GSN may have itself another winner here.
The virtual mob is horrific. The entire appeal of this show is (was) the 100 live contestants in the studio competing against the ONE live contestant in the studio. The webcams and still-shots of the mob are blurry, cheap, and unwatchable.
If GSN does not have the budget or staff to coordinate 100 in-studio mob members, then they should make the AUDIENCE the mob. Having the audience sign a simple release form and briefing them before the show would accomplish that result with no additional staff needed. TATTLETALES did exactly that way back in the 70′s when every member of the audience was also a “participant” in the show via the fact that they could potentially win money.
The studio space GSN is using to seat the live audience could have been used to construct basic risers with inexpensive plywood podiums housing the MOB/audience. Simple touch-screens could be installed in the podiums to allow the mob members to vote for answer A, B, or C.
This is once again a disappointing remake by GSN, equal to the disappointment of “Whammy”, which bore no resemblance to the classic Press Your Luck.
I’m so sorry to be so negative. I always want to love the GSN originals but their origianl productions are generally awful. “Russian Roulette” and “Mr. Q” were great. Other than that… zilch for GSN originals.
The virtual mob is okay. But the contestant was getting on my nerves. And the host, Carrie Ann is probably the worst host I’ve seen on a game show yet. And the money ladder is so cheap. They should modify this version with better casting, a real mob, bob saget as host and a $250,000 prize . I was thinking about this money ladder
100: $250,000
90-99: $100,000
80-89: $50,000
70-79: $25,000
60-69: $15,000
50-59: $10,000
40-49: $7,500
30-39: $5,000
20-29: $2,500
10-19: $1,000
This money ladder takes out all of the cheap amounts and makes viewers more excited to watch.
I’m not too crazy about the money ladder. What I suggest is that they pay $50 for each of the first ten Mob members eliminated, $100 for the next ten, and so on. Eliminating the entire mob should pay off $100,000.
My preferred money ladder would be like in season two of the NBC version:
$100 for each mob member (3 questions, must play all 3 before chance to quit)
$200 each (2 questions, must play both)
$300 each (1 question at a time)
$400
.
.
.
$1000 each
Entire mob = $100,000
The biggest negative point I have is with the money ladder. Half an hour with one contestant knocking out over 2/3 of the mob and she wins as much as they used to on Mall Masters. Give me a break!
I watched the new 1 vs. 100 last night and what a disappointment. Another show ruined by someone at the networks putting looks over talent. Carrie Anne while I am sure is a very nice person is very annoying to listen to and watch. I am not sure why Bob Saget is no longer with the show I thought he did a great job. The format changes also are disappointing, The pizazz the show used to have is gone and now it just seems very low budget and cheesy. I guess I can cross this off my tv list.

Considering the logistics of a real mob, this virtual mob was much better than I thought it would be. I’m sure the hosting will get better, but I fear the contestants won’t–typical GSN contestants that don’t know their left foot from their right eyelid.
I never liked the money ladder of every ten contestants = a new level, and I know this must be done on a GSN payscale, but this is about as cheap as they come–really need to change that.
Considering how next-to-impossible it really is to knock out the entire mob, I really think the $50K could be more.
Last night’s contestant reminds me of the idiots that used to be featured on Deal or No Deal. She was one of the most obnoxious people I’ve ever seen, and she made me cringe every time she spoke. Ugh. At least tonight’s contestant was better.
Carrie Ann Inaba is an acquired taste, and I don’t think I’ve acquired her yet. She seems a bit too robotic for my liking. However, I’d take her as a host over Bruno Tonioli any day. Hopefully she’ll improve as the show progresses. We’ve seen several shows helmed by rookie game show hosts over the past few years, and although it took some time, the majority of these hosts did well in the end.
The money tree reeks of cheapness. $500 for knocking 10 people out? Five grand for 70? Please. A revision of this tree, or a return to the original “money per per Mob member eliminated” format would be good. GSN has done shows with $100,000 as a top prize before (hello, Russian Roulette and Bingo America), and both enjoyed moderate success. Why they couldn’t apply that same logic here boggles the mind.
Overall, this revival actually isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The Mob members via webcam method is executed well, and theo host and contestant can still interact with them. The only major problems are hosting (which can hopefully improve) and the money tree. Other than this, this show might have sticking power. We’ll see what develops.
One more thing: Is it me, or did the money tree change slightly from the first episode to the second? The money tree on the premiere had values like $3,000 and $4,000, while tonight’s episode featured a money tree that had $750 as the second amount. Just thought I’d point that out.
The reason it is probably lower is that getting C-list celebrities to host shows probably costs more than their relative nobodies they used to have, and the reason Russian Roulette could afford the $100,000 is because it was so rarely won, and 80% of the episodes had prizes around $3,000 won. On 1 vs. 100, money is going to be given away every single “game” and so far it is clear it will tend to be in the $5,000-$10,000 range most likely, just about every single episode.
If the show winds up getting good ratings I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the money amounts get higher next season.
Ya you’re right, the money chain did change from the first episode. Not sure why they would do this…the money chain already seemed pretty cheap, now it just got worse. Though I am glad 1 vs 100 is back on the airways!
Just caught the GSN premiere episode from Monday on Youtube, and I must say that I am quite impressed with what they’ve put together! Carrie Ann seems to enjoy it and gives a positive vibe as the new host. I found nothing wrong with her at all, she’ll definitely improve over the course of the next coming weeks, I’m sure.
The set looks great, the virtual mob is perfectly fine with me. Just wish they’d revert back to that electric purple plasma flowing from the mob when the contestant asks for help, that was awesome.
As far as gameplay goes, the only downside is the money ladder. I know many people aren’t fans of moving up a rung for every 10 people you eliminate (and neither am I), but we must consider the fact that it is on a GSN budget, and I think many will agree that the gameplay feels a little faster.
That doesn’t go to say that they couldn’t improvise a season one format with success as well. $100 per mob member for the first three questions, then the option to take the money or mob. Then another two questions at $200 per mob member, then a second option to leave the game. Questions go to $500 per mob member if they keep top prize at $50,000. If they ever bump it up to $100,000 the bounty ladder can extend to $1,000.
In my opinion, the ladder for every ten mob members eliminated should read: $500–$1,000–$1,500–$2,500–$5,000–$7,500–$10,000–$15,000–$25,000–$50,000
All in all, I’ve always been a big 1 vs. 100 fan, and it is still very enjoyable for me. Good work GSN.
Just caught the third episode of GSN’s revival of “1 vs. 100″.
What we have here is a triumph of content and format over anything else. Miss Inaba needs work–she is not the natural that Chris Jericho was on “Downfall”, but with a little more work, might prove fairly good at this.
The issue of the money ladder isn’t as big a thing to me, as I didn’t watch the NBC run, although I liked what I’d seen when rerun on GSN. It’s the kind of money ladder one might see on old-fashioned network daytime shows.
I don’t see how the “virtual Mob” is worked, but it seems to work okay. There might be even more interaction if there were a real, live Mob. However, GSN does not have the wherewithal that NBC had, so we’ll have to make do with these monitors.
Questions appear to be more “cute” than smart, although they are not entirely diabolical. Some of them seem to display a bit of snark.
Probably worth continued viewing, and if it succeeds, maybe a higher money ladder might be achieved.
I agree with the per-mob format over the “knock out ten”. But a better moderator (Woolery, Walberg, or a radio personality with a background similar to the old-school game show host) is something that could have made better sense. Some hosts are better at the drama of the reveal of an answer than others.
I just finally got around to seeing an episode of this, and I really enjoyed it…they really did capture the same feeling as the original game and I thought it was a lot of fun to watch. It would be nice if there was more money at stake, but for what they have, they’ve done an excellent job. :)
Love the show. Would love to be apart of the mob. carrie ann is a better dancing with stars host.
