CBS Shoots Emeril Lagasse Cooking Game Show Pilot for Daytime
We’ve got another game show contender for the CBS daytime slot replacing the canceled soap opera As The World Turns. Deadline TV is reporting that CBS has ordered a pilot for an untitled cooking game show hosted by famous chef Emeril Lagasse. The show is through Fremantle, and they do the other two daytime game shows CBS has (The Price is Right and Let’s Make A Deal) so there’s some strong connections there.
They say it’s an original format, but it sounds very similar to the popular UK show Ready, Steady, Cook! which aired on BBC America for a long time and still apparently airs on BBC 2 in England. This new pilot for CBS, which is in front of a live studio audience, sees people from the audience compete against each other for prizes in preparing a dish with the supervision of Emeril Lagasse, which is probably for the best so audience members who can’t cook don’t lob off a body part. Dismemberment doesn’t play will in daytime. Only in primetime.
So now we have this, we have a The View-like talk show, and we have the Pyramid pilot. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens time slot wise. All of these shows are seeming like half hour shows, and all have documented history from sources saying they are as well. There’s a chance they could pick up two. But they could easily just pick up one and either double-run it or give a half hour back to local stations. CBS’s upfront is in around two weeks so hopefully we’ll here some update.
Speaking of Pyramid, we previously said on our Twitter page that the pilot was supposed to tape a week or two ago. That was delayed due to host issues. When we can say what’s going on we will, but cross your fingers.

I think that if CBS doesn't pick up Pyramid, then there's a chance of syndicating it in 2011.
You're right about the whole Catch 21/Newlywed Game thing. Baggage is a hit because of The Newlywed Game. Hopefully Catch 21 would be paired with the perfect game show (can you say High Rollers?)

I* look at the Chen talk show and Pyramid and I think of 1991 when CBS paired a talk show with Family Feud and Feud never really recovered afterwards.
exactly what I was thinking… sounds exactly like CCWK… does that still air over there? I used to watch that as kid when I had to stay home sick from school!
Which requires moving Y&R, the number one overall show, out of its slot. If I were a betting man, I'd bet against that. It was one thing for ABC to bag the 12:30 slot, they had a black hole there with Loving/The City/Port Charles, but not so CBS.
It's all well and good what the affiliates want, but they don't get everything they want. Moreover, splitting up the hour coming open in September is illogical programming strategy.

I would like to see what they will replace As the World Turns with Put Password on at that time
It appears Fremantle may have tried out this concept in Atlantic City last year as a live stage show called "Taste of Emeril's Cooking Challenge," with both Marc Summers and Mark DeCarlo hosting, and Emeril appearing in video segments. Check this out…http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/life/article_4…

Methinks Fremantle wants an (sing it with me) M…Oh!….N….Oh!….P-O-L-Y!
Actually Pyramid and Emeril's Cooking game show would be a much better idea, two of the coolest shows.
and after that disastrously bad emeril sitcom, he's better off doing a cooking show, a talk show and a game show, emeril would be a fine game show host.
I Would love to see him as a pyramid special guess star, he would be great in the winner's circle
Our version was baaadd. A specialist cookery show, put out Iron Chef US a couple of years ago, and thought if it was made to the same reciepe over here, then it would be a good show. It wasn't. Looked cheap, too much shouting, hamfisted editing, terrible dubbing and the host had not warmth to the presentation so the show felt like it had no real point and a pathetic single £1,000 prize per week (and it ran Mon-Fri) is just unacceptable.
Iron Chef UK has been pulled two weeks before the end of the schduled run on Channel 4. Deal Or No Deal which runs before it still pulls 2m+ at 4.15 (that's around 20% share) and Iron Chef UK (playing at 5 after it) was strugging to get 700,000 early last week. The Weakest Link over on BBC One was beating in 3-1 when the timeslots overlapped.
Come Dine With Me is getting a double episodes (which are rerun episodes) and that will see out the days until a terrifying sounding chatshow takes up summer residence at 5 from May 31st.
Jeeze – how bad was my typing there. Here's how the first sentence should have read…

Memo to self. Check the text you want to post before bashing the 'submit comment' button..
I think that the Emeril game show idea is great for daytime. You get Emeril in his comfort zone, add some prizes and guest interaction and a strong supporting staff and this show should be a hit. Also gives CBS an opportuntiy for a couple of prime time specials with Emeril for the holidays… take that Food Network
I think it's great for daytime, wrong for CBS. We should have something classic in there, like Pyramid or Card Sharks.
